FAQ – Two Diesel Depot Tanks on Brick Supports (Unpainted Resin)
What exactly is included in this product?
The product includes two unpainted diesel depot tanks mounted on brick supports, printed in high-detail resin. Any figures shown in photos (such as the 15mm figure) are for scale only and are not included.
What are the dimensions of the tanks?
Each diesel depot tank assembly is approximately 36mm long, 16mm wide, and 20mm tall.
What material are the tanks made from?
The tanks are 3D printed in high-detail resin. This material captures fine detail but can be delicate, so handle with care.
Are the tanks ready to use straight out of the box?
They are ready for priming and painting but may require light cleanup. The models are supplied unpainted and unprimed, and in some cases unassembled if needed. A little fine sanding may be required where supports were attached.
Is the 15mm figure shown in the pictures included?
No. The 15mm figure is shown only to give a sense of scale and is not part of the sale.
Where are these models produced?
All models are printed, cleaned, and cured in the UK by the maker using high-detail resin.
Do the tanks come pre-painted or primed?
No. The tanks are supplied unpainted and unprimed so you can finish them in your own style and match them to your layout or gaming table.
Are the supports already removed?
Yes. All printing supports are removed before shipping. You may still see very faint marks where supports were attached, which can usually be smoothed with light sanding.
How delicate are these resin parts?
Resin can be quite delicate, especially on thin sections and edges. Avoid dropping the parts or putting heavy weight on them, and store them safely when not in use.
Can I use these tanks with different scales?
The tanks are shown with a 15mm figure for reference, but they can be used in various scales depending on how you interpret them on your layout. Always check the listed dimensions (36mm x 16mm x 20mm) against your chosen scale to see if they suit your project.
Are these suitable for beginners?
Yes. The models arrive cleaned, cured, and with supports removed, so only basic hobby skills are needed: light sanding, priming, and painting. They are a good introduction to working with resin scenery.
What should I do if my item arrives damaged?
If the piece is broken in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and packaging and contact the seller. They will review the images and do what they can to help. They cannot be responsible for breakages that occur after safe delivery.
Do I need to wash the models before painting?
The models are cleaned and cured by hand before shipping, but many hobbyists still like to give resin parts a quick wash in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild dish soap. Rinse well and let them dry completely before priming to ensure the best paint adhesion.
How do I deal with any remaining support marks or small imperfections?
Use fine-grit sandpaper or sanding sticks (around 600–1000 grit) to gently smooth any visible support marks or tiny ridges. Work slowly and test-fit the model on your layout as you go. Resin sands easily, so a light touch is best.
The surface feels slightly tacky. What can I do?
A slightly tacky feel can sometimes be residue from handling or cleaning. Try:
- Washing the model in lukewarm, soapy water and rinsing thoroughly.
- Allowing it to dry fully in a well-ventilated area.
- After it is completely dry, giving it a light sand if needed, then priming.
If tackiness persists, contact the seller with details and photos.
My primer is beading up or not sticking well. How can I fix this?
This usually means there is some residue on the surface. Wash the model again with a little dish soap, rinse, and let it dry fully. Then use a primer formulated for plastic or resin, applied in thin coats from the recommended distance. Avoid heavy, wet coats which can bead or obscure detail.
A small part snapped while I was handling the model. Can it be repaired?
In many cases, yes. Resin can be re-glued with cyanoacrylate (super glue). Make sure both surfaces are clean and dry, apply a small amount of glue, and hold the parts in place until set. For hairline cracks, you can sometimes wick thin super glue into the crack and then sand smooth once cured.
The model seems slightly warped. Is there anything I can do?
Minor warping can sometimes be corrected by gently warming the part in lukewarm (not boiling) water, carefully bending it back into shape, and then holding it in position under cold water. Always proceed slowly and cautiously to avoid further damage.
Do these tanks require assembly?
The tanks are supplied as printed pieces and may be unassembled if needed, depending on how they are produced and packed. Any assembly required is straightforward and typically involves aligning the tank bodies with their brick supports and gluing if they are separate parts.
What glue should I use for assembly?
Cyanoacrylate (super glue) is recommended for resin. Use small amounts, test-fit the parts first, and avoid solvent-based plastic cements, as they are designed for polystyrene rather than resin.
How should I prime the tanks before painting?
After any light sanding and optional washing, use a good-quality spray or brush-on primer suitable for resin or plastic miniatures. Apply thin, even coats to preserve the fine detail. Grey or black primers work well for industrial tanks, but any neutral colour is fine.
What type of paints work best on these resin tanks?
Acrylic model paints are ideal: they adhere well to primed resin, dry quickly, and are easy to layer and weather. Enamels and oils can also be used over a suitable primer, but ensure each layer is fully cured before applying the next.
Any tips for painting realistic diesel depot tanks?
For a convincing industrial look, you can:
- Basecoat the tanks in a muted metal or utility colour (greys, off-whites, or industrial greens).
- Add subtle rust streaks, oil stains, and grime using washes and drybrushing.
- Pick out the brick supports with brick reds and browns, then add mortar lines and weathering powders for depth.
Work in thin layers so you keep all the crisp detail from the high-detail resin print.
