Perfect for an industrial area, brewery or as wagon loads.  These are the ideal pieces that will bring a layout or diorama to life and the kind of items you would have lying around either full or empty!
Your order will come with the following great pieces :

Six Beer 50L Kegs

This listing is for six resin printed pieces in grey, figure not included only shown for scale.  Each Keg is approx 20mm diameter by 28mm high.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed, four painted are just shown to see how I paint them, car primer and then silver acrylic spray.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we can't be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we'll see what we can do to help.

FAQ – 16mm Scale 50L Beer Kegs (Resin Printed Scenery)

What exactly do I get in this set?

You receive six resin-printed 50L beer kegs in 16mm scale (1:19 / Live Steam / Mamod). The pieces are supplied in grey resin, unprimed and unpainted, with all printing supports removed. Any figures or other items shown in photos are for scale only and are not included.

What size are the kegs?

Each keg is approximately 20mm in diameter and 28mm high. This suits 16mm scale layouts and works nicely alongside typical live steam and Mamod stock.

Are the kegs ready to use straight out of the box?

They are fully printed, cleaned, and cured, so you can place them on a layout immediately if you like the bare resin look. However, they are intended to be primed and painted for best results, and some light sanding may be needed to perfect the surface.

Are these suitable for my layout or diorama theme?

These kegs are ideal for industrial scenes, brewery yards, goods yards, and wagon loads. They also work well scattered around sheds, depots, and loading docks to add everyday clutter and life to your layout or diorama.

Are the kegs hollow or can they be filled?

The kegs are supplied as resin printed pieces intended purely as scenery. They are not designed to be functional containers and are best used as static detail items on your layout.

Is any figure or extra scenery included?

No. The listing is only for the six grey resin 50L beer kegs. Any painted examples, figures, or other scenery shown in photographs are for illustration and scale reference only.

My kegs arrived with slight marks – is that normal?

All supports are removed and each piece is cleaned and cured by hand, but very fine support marks can still remain. This is normal for resin printing. A quick pass with fine sandpaper or sanding sticks will usually make them disappear before priming.

What should I do if a keg arrives broken?

If a piece has clearly been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as you can and get in touch. While we can’t be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always see what we can do to help when postal damage occurs.

Are these pieces fragile?

Yes, resin can be quite delicate, especially with smaller details. The kegs are sturdy enough for normal layout use, but they can break if dropped or crushed. Handle them gently when sanding, priming, and placing them on your layout.

Can I use these outdoors or in a garden railway?

The kegs are resin printed and many modellers do use resin details on garden railways. However, long-term exposure to strong sunlight and weather can affect any model. If you plan to use them outdoors, give them a good primer and paint coat, and consider a clear protective varnish to help them last longer.

How should I prepare the kegs before painting?

Before painting, lightly sand any visible support marks with fine-grit sandpaper and remove any dust. Although they are already cleaned and cured, you can also give them a quick wash in mild soapy water, rinse, and let them dry completely to ensure good paint adhesion.

What primer should I use?

A standard model or automotive (car) primer works well on these resin kegs. The painted examples shown were primed with car primer before applying colour. Use light, misted coats rather than one heavy coat to avoid obscuring detail.

What paints work best on these resin kegs?

Acrylic paints work very well on primed resin. The painted examples used silver acrylic spray over a primed surface. You can also use brush-on acrylics or enamels, as long as you’ve applied a suitable primer first.

Do I need to assemble anything?

No assembly is required for these kegs. They are supplied as complete single pieces. The note “unassembled (if needed)” simply reflects that some products may require assembly, but this particular set of kegs does not.

Any tips for realistic finishing and weathering?

After priming and base-coating (for example, silver or steel), you can add realism by:

  • Dry-brushing a lighter metallic tone on raised edges.
  • Adding thin washes of brown or black to suggest grime and shadows.
  • Using rust tones sparingly around rims and seams if you want a more worn look.

Always build up effects gradually so you don’t overwhelm the detail.

My paint isn’t sticking well – what can I do?

If paint beads or doesn’t adhere, it usually means there’s a trace of grease or dust on the surface, or the primer layer is too smooth. Try this:

  • Gently wash the kegs in warm, soapy water, rinse, and let them dry fully.
  • Lightly scuff the surface with very fine sandpaper.
  • Re-prime with a light coat of a good-quality primer and let it cure before repainting.

There are tiny lines or rough patches on the surface – how do I fix them?

Fine print lines or rough spots can occur on resin prints. To smooth them:

  • Use fine-grit sandpaper or sanding sticks, working gently around the curved surfaces.
  • Re-check under a light; repeat sanding if needed.
  • Apply a thin coat of primer to see if the surface is now smooth; spot-sand again if required.

One of the kegs doesn’t sit flat on the layout – how can I correct this?

If a base is slightly uneven, you can carefully sand the bottom on a flat surface:

  • Place fine sandpaper on a flat board or glass plate.
  • Hold the keg upright and gently rub the base in small circles.
  • Check frequently so you don’t remove too much material.

Can I drill or modify the kegs?

You can carefully drill or modify resin pieces if you wish to add pipes, taps, or mounting pins. Use a small hand drill and work slowly to avoid cracking the resin. Any modifications are at your own risk, as resin is delicate and can snap if stressed.

How should I store the kegs before and after painting?

Store them in a dry box or tray where they can’t rattle around. Keeping them separated with tissue or foam helps prevent chips and scratches. After painting, let them cure fully before placing them on the layout, and avoid stacking heavy items on top of them.
