FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this seated driver figure?

The figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is approximately 64 mm tall in the seated position, making it suitable for layouts similar in scale to LGB and Bachmann.

Is the figure suitable as a locomotive driver?

Yes, this seated figure is designed to work very well as a driver or crew member in G-Scale locomotives and rolling stock where a seated pose is needed.

How are these figures created?

The figures are 3D scanned from real people to capture realistic body shapes, facial detail and natural poses before being produced as high-detail resin prints.

Where is the model produced and how is it shipped?

The model is printed in the UK using high detail resin and dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class.

Is the model supplied painted?

No, the model is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in the colours and style that best match your own railway or scene.

Is this product suitable for children?

No, these figures are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is produced in high detail resin, which allows for fine surface detail and realistic features but also means it should be handled with care.

How eco-friendly is the packaging?

The packaging is designed to be eco friendly. The outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the inner packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is the figure new or second-hand?

Under what license is this figure sold?

The figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

Can I use this figure with other G-Scale brands?

Yes, the 1:22.5 scale is similar to LGB, Bachmann and other common G-Scale brands, so the figure should blend in well with those ranges.

The figure arrived with small marks or faint lines. Is this normal?

Minor surface marks or faint print lines can sometimes appear with high detail resin printing. These are usually easy to smooth with light sanding or filling before priming and painting.

What should I do if the figure arrives broken from the post?

If your figure appears to have been damaged in transit, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. While we cannot cover breakages after safe delivery, we will do our best to help if the piece has been broken in the post.

The figure seems slightly shiny or slippery. Will primer still stick?

Yes, primer will usually adhere well. If the surface feels particularly smooth, a quick wash in mild soapy water, followed by a rinse and thorough dry, can help remove any remaining residue before priming.

What if the figure does not quite fit my cab or seat?

Cab interiors vary a lot between models. If the figure is a tight fit, you can carefully sand or trim non-visible areas (such as the underside or back of the seat area) to help it sit correctly.

Can I repair a small break myself?

Small breaks in resin can often be repaired with a suitable model glue or thin superglue. Make sure the parts are clean and dry, test-fit them first, then glue and hold gently until set.

Does the figure need any preparation before painting?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but some minor finishing may still be helpful. This can include light sanding of any small nubs or print marks and checking for any tiny imperfections before priming.

Which primers work well on this resin?

The figure can be primed with commonly available hobby primers such as Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer. Apply in light coats to preserve the fine detail.

Do I need to wash the figure before priming?

Although the figures are cleaned by hand, many modellers like to give resin parts a quick wash in mild soapy water, rinse and let them dry fully before priming to ensure the best paint adhesion.

What type of paints can I use after priming?

Once primed, you can use your preferred hobby paints, such as acrylics or enamels, applied in thin layers. The key is to build up colour gradually to keep the realistic detail visible.

Any tips for painting realistic clothing and faces?

Because the figure is 3D scanned from a real person, the folds and features take paint very nicely. Many modellers find that using:

  • A darker base coat and lighter highlights on raised folds
  • Thin washes to bring out creases and detail
  • Subtle flesh tones with a gentle wash for facial features

helps to achieve a natural, lifelike finish.

How should I handle the figure during assembly and painting?

Resin can be delicate, so handle the figure by the more solid areas rather than fine details. Avoid dropping it, and consider using a temporary holder (such as a small clamp or blu-tack on a stick) while painting to keep fingerprints off the surface.
