FAQ – Product FAQs

General Product FAQs

What exactly do I get with this post box set?

You receive four grey resin-printed pieces: two free-standing G-scale post boxes and two wall-mounted G-scale post boxes. No figures, scenery, or painted examples are included.

What scale are these post boxes designed for?

These post boxes are designed for G-scale layouts and are also suitable for GN15 scenes, making them ideal for town or village dioramas in those scales.

Do the post boxes come painted or primed?

No, all pieces come unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. The painted post box and figure shown in example images are not included and are only to show how the pieces can look when finished.

Are the wall-mounted post boxes separate pieces?

Yes, the wall-mounted post boxes are separate resin pieces. You can attach them to your own building walls, fences, or other flat surfaces on your layout.

Are these suitable for outdoor garden railways?

The pieces are resin printed and cleaned and cured by hand. Many modellers use similar items outdoors, but long-term durability outdoors will depend on your local weather, UV exposure, and the primers and paints you use. Extra sealing and protection are recommended if used outside.

Are the post boxes ready to place on the layout straight from the box?

They arrive fully printed with supports removed, but they are intended to be primed and painted by you. A little fine sanding may also be needed before painting to achieve the best finish.

Troubleshooting FAQs

My post box arrived broken in the post, what should I do?

If your item is damaged during shipping, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact the seller. They will review the images and see what can be done to help.

The surface has small marks or lines from supports, is this normal?

Yes, although every effort is made to remove support marks, some fine sanding is often needed with resin prints. Lightly sand the affected areas with fine-grit sandpaper before priming.

The resin feels delicate—am I doing something wrong when handling it?

Resin can be quite delicate by nature. Handle the pieces gently, avoid dropping them, and support thin parts when sanding or painting. Once primed and painted, they often feel a bit more robust.

The paint is not sticking well to the resin, how can I improve adhesion?

Ensure the piece is clean and dry, then apply a suitable model primer before painting. Primer helps the paint adhere better and also reveals any areas that might need additional sanding.

One of the post boxes does not sit flat on my layout surface, what can I do?

Check the base for any tiny nubs or uneven spots and gently sand the bottom on a flat surface with fine sandpaper until it sits level. Take care not to remove too much material at once.

Assembly & Painting FAQs

Do I need to assemble anything, or are the post boxes one-piece prints?

The items are supplied unassembled if needed, but the post boxes themselves are printed as complete pieces. You simply need to prepare, prime, and paint them before adding them to your layout.

What paints were used in the example photos?

The example paint job uses Tamiya Black X-1, Red X-7, and White X-2. You can follow this scheme or use similar colours from your preferred paint brand.

How should I prepare the pieces before painting?

Inspect for any remaining support marks and gently sand if needed. Then:

  • Lightly clean the pieces if they have any dust or handling residue.
  • Allow them to dry fully.
  • Apply a suitable primer for resin miniatures.
  • Paint and then seal with a clear varnish if desired.

Any tips for painting the details like the slot and lettering?

Use a fine brush and thinned paint for the slot and any raised details. It often helps to paint the whole box red first, then carefully pick out the slot and trim in black and white once the base colour is fully dry.

How do I attach the wall-mounted post boxes to buildings?

After painting and sealing, you can attach the wall-mounted post boxes using a small amount of suitable model glue on the back surface. Hold them in place until the bond sets, and always test-fit the position on your wall or structure before gluing.
