FAQ – Product FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What scale is this figure and how tall is it?
This figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and stands at approximately 73mm tall. It matches popular G-Scale brands such as LGB and Bachmann, making it ideal for garden and large-scale model railways.
What pose and clothing does the figure have?
The figure is a man standing at ease in a relaxed pose, wearing a casual work jacket. It has been 3D scanned from a real person to capture realistic proportions and body language.
Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?
The figure is supplied unpainted. This allows you to paint it to match your own layout, railway company, or scene.
Where is the figure made and what material is used?
The model is printed in the UK using high detail resin. Each item is cleaned and cured by hand before being packed and dispatched.
How is the item packaged and shipped?
The figure is dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Our packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, and the inner packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.
Is this suitable for children?
No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard.
What should I do if the figure arrives broken?
If the figure is damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging, then contact us. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after delivery, we will always see what we can do to help put things right when damage occurs in transit.
Can the figure break easily?
The figure is made from resin, which allows for fine detail but can be delicate. Avoid dropping or bending parts, especially thinner areas like arms or edges of clothing.
Does the figure need any preparation before painting?
All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but you may find a little minor finishing is helpful before painting. This can include very light sanding or trimming of any small artefacts from the printing process.
Can I use this figure outdoors on a garden railway?
The figure is G-Scale and well suited to garden railway layouts in terms of size. However, as with any resin model, long-term outdoor exposure can affect the finish, so many modellers choose to protect it with suitable primers, paints and clear coats and bring figures indoors when not in use.
Is this figure sold under license?
Yes. The figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D, ensuring that the original 3D scan and design are used legitimately.
What if the figure does not match my existing G-Scale models?
The figure is produced to 1:22.5 G-Scale, the same scale as popular brands like LGB and Bachmann. Minor visual differences can occur between manufacturers, but in most cases this figure should blend well with other G-Scale items.
The figure looks slightly rough in places. Is this normal?
Because each figure is printed, cleaned and cured by hand, very small surface marks or layer lines can occasionally be visible, especially under strong light. These are usually easy to smooth with gentle sanding and a good primer before painting.
My figure has a slight bend or warp. What can I do?
A slight bend can sometimes occur with resin. You can usually correct this by very gently warming the affected area in warm (not boiling) water, carefully straightening it, and then holding it in place under cold water. Always handle the model delicately and avoid forcing any part.
The primer is not adhering well. What might be wrong?
If primer is beading or not gripping, the surface may have dust, skin oils, or residue. Gently wash the figure in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild detergent, let it dry completely, and then re-prime using a suitable primer such as Simonez grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer.
There are tiny bits of resin or a small tag on the figure. Is this a fault?
Small artefacts from supports or the printing process can occasionally remain. These are usually removed easily with a sharp hobby knife or fine sanding stick. Work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the surrounding detail.
What should I do if a small part snaps while I am handling or painting it?
Resin can be repaired using a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue). Dry-fit the parts first, apply a tiny amount of glue, hold gently in place until set, and then touch up any join with filler and paint as needed.
How should I prime the figure?
We recommend using Simonez grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, as noted in the product description. Apply in thin, even coats, allowing each coat to dry fully. Grey primers are particularly good at revealing any areas that may need a little extra sanding or filling.
Do I need to wash the model before priming?
Although the figures are cleaned by hand, many modellers prefer to give resin models a quick wash in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and let the figure dry completely before priming to ensure the best paint adhesion.
What type of paints work best on this resin figure?
Once properly primed, most hobby acrylic or enamel model paints will work well. Many railway modellers favour acrylics for ease of use and quick drying times, especially when building up clothing tones and skin colours in layers.
Any tips for painting such a realistic, 3D-scanned figure?
Because the pose and proportions are very natural, subtle shading really brings the figure to life. Consider:
- Building up skin tones in thin layers rather than one solid colour.
- Using a slightly darker shade in folds of the jacket and trousers.
- Dry-brushing a lighter tone on raised areas to highlight the sculpted detail.
How can I protect the painted figure once it is finished?
After the paint is fully dry, many modellers like to apply a clear varnish to protect the finish. Choose a matt, satin or gloss varnish depending on the look you want for clothing and accessories, and apply in light coats to avoid obscuring detail.
