Product details

Here is our take on the 009/OO9 RNAD 60/70hp Baguley-Drewry Diesel kit  for mounting onto a KATO 109 chassis. These locos were built by Baguley-Drewry in the early 1980s for service at RNAD munitions depots around the UK. Eventually they were retired and now appear on preservation lines and some private works.

Our kit easily clips into place onto the Kato chassis and securely clips into place. The body is then a simple push fit into the sub-chassis. This allows for easy painting prior to assembly and you can re-use the chassis if needed. The body also also has .31mm hole markings if you want to fit handles and panel handles using .31mm brass wire (supplied). The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK.

The sale is for the body and sub-chassis only, it is unpainted and supplied without the KATO chassis which is shown for information only as are the colour photos.

May require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched by Royal Mail in the UK and Royal Mail for worldwide. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

FAQ – Product FAQs

Baguley-Drewry 70hp Diesel DH88 RNAD Dean Hill – FAQ

What exactly is included with this Baguley-Drewry diesel kit?

The kit includes the high-detail resin body and sub-chassis for the Baguley-Drewry 70hp Diesel DH88 RNAD Dean Hill in 009/OO9 scale. It is supplied unpainted, unassembled (where applicable), with all printing supports removed and .31mm brass wire for optional handles and panel handles.

Is the KATO chassis included with the kit?

No, the KATO 109 chassis is not included. The photos showing the KATO chassis are for illustration only. The kit is designed to clip onto a KATO 109 chassis that you supply yourself.

What scale and chassis is this kit designed for?

This is a 009/OO9 narrow gauge locomotive body kit designed specifically to mount onto the KATO 109 chassis. The sub-chassis clips onto the KATO unit, and the body is a push-fit onto the sub-chassis.

Is the kit ready to run out of the box?

No, this is a body and sub-chassis kit only. It requires a separate KATO 109 chassis to run, and it comes unpainted, so you will need to prime and paint it before final use if you want a finished appearance.

How is the kit manufactured?

The parts are 3D printed in high-detail resin in the UK. All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and supports are removed before dispatch. Some light finishing may still be required before painting.

How is the kit packaged and shipped?

The kit is dispatched by Royal Mail within the UK and worldwide. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, and the inner packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

What should I do if the body does not clip securely onto the KATO 109 chassis?

First, check that the KATO 109 chassis is correctly oriented and fully seated in the sub-chassis. Ensure there are no bits of sprue or debris in the clip areas. If the fit is slightly tight, very gently ease the inside of the clip points with a fine needle file, removing as little material as possible until it clips snugly.

The body seems slightly tight when push-fitting onto the sub-chassis. How can I improve the fit?

Inspect the mating surfaces for any tiny resin nibs or remaining support marks and lightly sand them with fine grit (around 800–1000). Test fit frequently and only remove a small amount of material at a time to maintain a secure push fit.

I can see faint support marks on the surface. How should I deal with them?

Although supports are removed, some faint marks can remain. Use fine sanding sticks or wet-and-dry paper to gently smooth the affected areas. Work slowly and evenly, then clean the dust off before priming to ensure a smooth painted finish.

What if a part arrives broken in the post?

If the kit is damaged during transit, please take clear photos of the damaged parts and the packaging as soon as you notice the issue. Contact the seller with these images so they can review the situation and see what can be done to put things right.

Can you replace parts if I break them after delivery?

Resin can be delicate, and the seller cannot be held responsible for breakages after the item has arrived safely. However, if you do have an accident, it is still worth getting in touch to discuss options; they will help where they reasonably can.

Do I need to clean the parts before priming and painting?

The parts are cleaned and cured by hand before dispatch, but it is always good practice to give them a gentle wash in warm (not hot) soapy water and let them dry thoroughly. This helps remove any remaining dust or handling residue and improves paint adhesion.

What type of primer and paint should I use on the resin?

Use a primer suitable for resin and plastic miniatures, applied in light coats. Once primed, you can use your preferred model paints (acrylics or enamels) as long as they are compatible with the primer. Always follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

How should I prepare the kit before painting?

After washing and drying the parts, inspect them for any fine support marks or mould lines. Lightly sand where needed, then dry-fit the body to the sub-chassis and the sub-chassis to the KATO 109 chassis. Once you are happy with the fit, separate the parts again for priming and painting.

When should I assemble the body onto the sub-chassis – before or after painting?

The kit is designed so you can paint the body and sub-chassis separately and then push-fit them together afterwards. This makes masking easier and helps you achieve a cleaner finish, especially around window and panel lines.

How do I use the .31mm brass wire for handles and panel handles?

The body has .31mm hole markings to guide you. Carefully drill these out with a matching fine drill bit, cut short lengths of the supplied .31mm brass wire, and test fit them as handles or panel handles. Once you are happy with the fit, you can fix them in place with a tiny amount of suitable adhesive before or after priming, depending on your painting preference.

Any tips for handling the resin parts during assembly and painting?

Resin is detailed but delicate, so handle parts by the thicker sections where possible and avoid flexing thin areas. Work over a soft surface to reduce the risk of damage if something is dropped, and allow plenty of drying time between paint coats so you do not have to grip the model too firmly.
