Product details

Here is a nice GN15 box van, and the kit comes with optional 12.5mm wheels as well. You can buy without wheelsets if you have some of your own. Very easy to get this up and going on your layout. Built specifically with GN15 operations in mind.

Your order will come with the following great pieces:

  • One bogie frame

  • Two coupling blocks

  • One box van body

  • One box van roof

  • Two sets of 12.5mm diameter wheels (optional)

This listing is for five resin printed pieces in grey and two wheelsets (optional).

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled, ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks, but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted, with all supports removed.

Please bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate, so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we can’t be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we’ll see what we can do to help.

FAQ – Product FAQs

GN15 Box Van Kit – Frequently Asked Questions

What scale and gauge is this box van designed for?

This box van is designed specifically for GN15 operations. It’s intended to run on 16.5mm gauge track with a large-scale narrow gauge look typical of GN15 layouts.

What exactly is included in my order?

Your order includes five grey resin-printed pieces: one bogie frame, two coupling blocks, one box van body, and one box van roof. You can also choose to receive two optional 12.5mm diameter wheelsets, or order the kit without wheels if you already have your own.

Do the parts come assembled or ready-to-run?

The kit is supplied unassembled. All parts are separate so you can build, prime, and paint the model to suit your own layout and style.

Are the parts already cleaned and cured?

Yes. All resin parts are cleaned and cured by hand before shipping. Support structures are removed, so you can move straight on to any light sanding, priming, and painting.

Are the models pre-primed or painted?

No. All pieces come unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. You’ll need to apply your own primer and paint to finish the model.

How delicate are the resin parts?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially around thinner details. Try to avoid dropping or bending parts. Once the item has arrived safely, we can’t be responsible for accidental damage during handling or use.

Can I buy the kit without wheelsets?

Yes. You can choose to buy the kit without the 12.5mm wheelsets if you already have suitable wheels you’d like to use.

What size wheels does the kit use?

The optional wheelsets supplied with the kit are 12.5mm in diameter. The bogie frame is designed to accept these wheels.

Is this kit suitable for beginners?

Yes. The GN15 box van is very straightforward to get up and running on your layout. The parts are simple, and only basic modelling skills are needed for assembly, priming, and painting.

Does the kit include couplings?

The kit includes two coupling blocks as separate resin parts. You can use these blocks as a base for your preferred coupling system, depending on how you standardise couplings on your layout.

Can I modify or kitbash the box van?

Absolutely. The plain grey resin and simple construction make this box van a good starting point for kitbashing, weathering, or adding extra details to match your own GN15 railway.

Can this van be used with other GN15 stock?

Yes. It’s built with GN15 operations in mind, so it’s ideal to run alongside your other GN15 locomotives and rolling stock on a 16.5mm gauge layout.

The parts arrived with faint marks where supports were removed. Is that normal?

Yes, this is normal for resin prints. We do our very best to remove support marks before shipping, but you may still see some faint areas that benefit from a little extra smoothing.

What should I do if a part looks slightly rough or has small lines?

Minor surface texture is common with resin printing. A light sand with fine-grit abrasive (such as 600–1000 grit) will usually smooth things out before priming. Take care not to over-sand edges or delicate details.

My wheelsets don’t seem to turn freely in the bogie frame. How can I fix this?

First, check that there’s no residual resin or flash in the axle areas of the bogie frame. A gentle clean-out with a fine file or needle file can help. Make sure the wheels are seated correctly and that the frame isn’t twisted before making any adjustments.

A part arrived broken in the post. What should I do?

If something has clearly been damaged in transit, please take clear photos of the broken part and the packaging and get in touch. With images we can assess the damage and see what we can do to help.

I accidentally broke a part while handling it. Can you replace it?

We can’t be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely, as resin is inherently delicate. However, you’re always welcome to contact us to discuss options; we’ll help where we reasonably can.

The roof or body doesn’t sit perfectly square. How can I correct this?

Check for any small bits of resin or uneven areas on the mating surfaces and gently sand them flat. Dry-fit the parts first to confirm alignment before using adhesive, and apply light, even pressure while any glue sets.

What glue should I use to assemble the resin pieces?

Use a good-quality adhesive suitable for resin, such as cyanoacrylate (super glue). Apply sparingly, dry-fit first, and allow each joint to set before handling the model further.

Do I need to wash the parts before painting?

Although the parts are cleaned and cured by hand, it’s still a good idea to give them a quick wash in mild soapy water, rinse, and let them dry fully. This helps ensure primer and paint adhere as well as possible.

How should I prepare the surfaces before priming?

Inspect the parts under good light, lightly sand any visible support marks or rough spots, and make sure everything is clean and dry. Avoid heavy sanding that might soften sharp detail.

What type of primer works best on this resin?

Use a primer that’s suitable for resin miniatures or plastic models. A thin, even coat is better than a thick one, and it will help your paint layers adhere and show off the detail.

Can I use acrylic paints on this model?

Yes. Once primed, acrylic model paints work very well on resin. Apply several thin coats rather than one thick one, and allow each layer to dry before adding the next.

Any tips for painting and weathering a GN15 box van?

After priming, build up your base colour in thin layers, then add simple weathering such as dry-brushed highlights, washes in panel lines, and a little track grime along the lower sides and underframe. GN15 stock often looks great with a slightly “lived-in” finish.
