Product details

This is a model of a Wickham Type 42 Inspection car to use with a Tenshodo Spud chassis. The spud fits easily into place and uses the screw that comes with the spud. The main body is a drop fit onto the sub chassis so you can paint it before assembly. The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK. I also include a dummy Spud chassis so that you can use the kit as a static display in a siding or diorama should you not wish to buy a spud. You can of course at a later date convert it to a running model.

The sale is for the body , the sub-chassis and dummy spud , it is unpainted and without the real tenshodo spud which is shown for information purposes only. (Also not included is the diorama/rail/figures etc, this offer is just for the Wickham)

The second picture shows the kit painted and sitting in a diorama so you can see how good the finish is.

If you search on google for "Tenshodo motor bogie" you will find them easily. Anything up to the 26mm wheelbase will work with these or you can use the dummy included.

The kit may require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched by Royal Mail. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

FAQ – Product FAQs

Wickham Type 42 Inspection Car Kit – Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in this Wickham Type 42 kit?

The sale is for the Wickham Type 42 inspection car body, the sub‑chassis and a dummy Tenshodo Spud chassis. Everything is supplied unassembled (where applicable), unprimed and unpainted, ready for you to finish. The real powered Tenshodo Spud, track, figures, scenery and diorama items shown in photos are not included.

Is this kit powered out of the box?

No, this is not a powered model out of the box. It is designed to accept a separately purchased Tenshodo motor bogie (Spud) with a wheelbase up to 26 mm. A dummy Spud chassis is included so you can use the Wickham as a static model in a siding or diorama without buying a motor bogie straight away.

What chassis or motor bogie will fit this model?

The kit is designed for a Tenshodo Spud (Tenshodo motor bogie) with a wheelbase up to 26 mm. The Spud fits easily into place and is secured using the screw supplied with the Spud itself. If you do not wish to motorise it, you can use the included dummy Spud chassis instead.

What material is the kit made from and where is it produced?

The kit is printed in high‑detail resin in the UK. All parts are cleaned, cured and supplied with supports removed, but they remain unprimed and unpainted so you can finish them to your own taste.

Is the body removable for painting and detailing?

Yes. The main body is a drop‑fit onto the sub‑chassis, which makes it very easy to remove for painting, detailing and maintenance. Many modellers paint the body and sub‑chassis separately and then assemble once everything is fully dry.

How is the kit packaged and shipped?

The kit is dispatched by Royal Mail and packaged in eco‑friendly materials. The outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The interior packing materials are acid‑free and made from approximately 99% recycled pulp fibres to help protect the delicate resin parts in transit.

The body doesn’t seem to sit correctly on the sub‑chassis. What should I check?

First, make sure there are no stray bits of cured resin or packing material in the locating areas. If necessary, very lightly sand any tiny high spots or printing nubs on the mating surfaces. The body is designed as a drop‑fit, so it should sit squarely without force once everything is clean and level.

My Tenshodo Spud will not fit properly into the chassis.

Check that the Spud’s wheelbase is no more than 26 mm, as larger wheelbases will not be compatible. Ensure that the Spud is correctly oriented and that nothing is obstructing the mounting area. The Spud should be secured using the screw supplied with the Spud itself; do not overtighten, as this can distort the resin.

The resin surface shows faint support marks. Is this normal?

Yes, some very fine support marks can remain even after careful cleaning and curing. These are usually minimal. A little gentle sanding with fine wet‑and‑dry paper or sanding sticks will quickly smooth them out before priming.

A part arrived broken in the post. What should I do?

If the damage clearly occurred in transit, please take clear photos of the broken parts and the packaging as soon as possible. Contact the seller with these images and details of the issue; they will do their best to help and to make things right where the breakage is due to postal handling.

I accidentally broke a part while handling it. Can this be fixed?

Resin can be delicate, so accidental breakages can happen if parts are dropped or stressed. These are not covered in the same way as postal damage, but many breaks can be repaired with a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) and careful alignment. Work slowly and support the part while the glue cures.

The finish looks slightly glossy or slick. Will paint still adhere?

Yes, paint will adhere once the parts are properly prepared. Wash the resin gently in warm (not hot) soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry fully. Then apply a suitable primer for resin models. The primer will provide a good key for your chosen top coats.

Do I need to do any preparation before priming and painting?

Some minor finishing may be required before painting. Typical preparation steps include:

  • Gently washing the parts to remove any remaining residue.
  • Lightly sanding any fine support marks or small imperfections.
  • Checking dry‑fit of the body, sub‑chassis and (dummy or real) Spud.
  • Allowing parts to dry completely before applying primer.
This will help you get the best possible finish.

What type of primer and paint should I use on this resin kit?

Use a primer specifically suitable for plastic or resin miniatures or model railway stock. Once primed, you can use your preferred model paints (acrylic, enamel, etc.) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply several thin coats rather than one heavy coat to preserve the detail.

Is it better to assemble first or paint first?

Because the Wickham body is a drop‑fit onto the sub‑chassis, many modellers find it easiest to:

  • Test‑fit all parts dry.
  • Paint the body and sub‑chassis separately.
  • Weather and detail as desired.
  • Then drop‑fit the body onto the sub‑chassis and add the Spud or dummy Spud.
  • This approach keeps hard‑to‑reach areas accessible while painting.

Can I use the dummy Spud for a static model and motorise it later?

Yes. The included dummy Spud allows you to use the Wickham as a static display piece in a siding or diorama. If you later decide to motorise it, you can remove the dummy Spud and install a real Tenshodo Spud with a wheelbase up to 26 mm, using the Spud’s own mounting screw.

Any tips for handling and long‑term care of the resin parts?

Handle the model carefully, especially thin sections such as steps or fine details. Try to avoid dropping or twisting the parts, as resin can be delicate. Store the model in a padded box or display case when not in use, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive heat, which can affect resin over time.
