FAQ - GN15 Lister Diesel Loco KitΒ

What scale is this kit, and what track does it run on?

This kit is designed for GN15 scale, which is 1:22.5 running on standard 16.5 mm gauge track (the same track used for OO/HO). It represents an industrial narrow gauge locomotive in G-scale proportions.

Is a motorised chassis included with the kit?

No, the motorised chassis is not included. The photos show a Tenshodo / Hanazono chassis for reference only. You will need to supply your own compatible chassis.

Which chassis is this body designed to fit?

The kit is designed to fit Tenshodo Spud or Hanazono chassis with a 31 mm wheelbase and 10.5 mm wheels. The included chassis frame is sized for these units.

What exactly do I get in the box?

You receive eight grey resin-printed parts: chassis frame, Lister-style diesel body with cab, hand brake, gearbox cover, seat, battery, and two coupling blocks. The kit is supplied new, unpainted, and unassembled.

Is this kit suitable for beginners?

The kit is straightforward to assemble with basic modelling skills. You should be comfortable using superglue, handling small parts, and doing light sanding or cleanup. It is a good project if you have built a few simple kits before.

Where is the kit made and how is it shipped?

The parts are resin printed and UV-cured in the UK. Orders are dispatched via Royal Mail (UK) in eco-friendly packaging using a recyclable outer box and 99% recycled, acid-free inner pulp.

What should I do if my kit arrives damaged?

If anything arrives damaged in transit, please take clear photos of the parts and packaging and get in touch. The seller will do their best to help resolve the issue.

Can I use this loco on layouts other than industrial scenes?

Yes. While it is ideal for industrial, quarry, and yard layouts, it will also look at home on workshop sidings, estate lines, and other small narrow gauge settings where a compact industrial diesel would be plausible.

Are the resin parts safe to handle?

The parts are cleaned and UV-cured by hand, so they are ready to handle and work with. As with any resin model, it is sensible to avoid creating dust, and to wash your hands after sanding or filing.

Will the colour of the resin always be the same?

The kit is supplied in grey resin, but minor colour variation may occur between batches. This does not affect how it builds or paints.

Do I need any special tools to build this kit?

Basic modelling tools are sufficient, such as a sharp craft knife, small files or sanding sticks, tweezers, and a fine paintbrush. A small pin vice and drill bits can be useful for detailing, but are not essential for basic assembly.

Can I run this loco outdoors?

The kit is intended as an indoor model. Resin and typical hobby paints do not enjoy prolonged direct sunlight or weather exposure. If you do use it outdoors, limit exposure and store it indoors when not in use.

The chassis does not seem to fit properly. What should I check?

First confirm that you are using a Tenshodo Spud or Hanazono chassis with a 31 mm wheelbase and 10.5 mm wheels. Make sure there is no flash or printing residue in the chassis frame. A light pass with a file or fine sandpaper on the inside faces can help the chassis sit squarely without forcing it.

My loco is slipping and has poor traction. How can I improve it?

The chassis frame includes pockets for lead shot or Liquid Gravity. Fill these pockets with weight and secure it with a suitable adhesive, taking care to keep clear of moving parts. The extra weight over the wheels will noticeably improve traction.

The resin parts do not line up perfectly. How do I correct this?

Dry-fit the parts before gluing to see where adjustment is needed. Lightly sand mating surfaces so they sit flat, and remove any small printing nubs. Assemble in stages, allowing each joint to set, so you can keep everything square as you go.

The surface looks slightly rough in places. Is this normal?

Minor sanding or cleanup is expected with resin printing. Use fine-grit sanding sticks or wet-and-dry paper to smooth any layer lines or small blemishes. Avoid heavy pressure so you do not soften sharp details.

The glue joint seems weak. Am I using the right adhesive?

This kit is designed to be assembled with superglue or Roket glue for a semi-permanent bond. Ensure the surfaces are clean and dry, use fresh adhesive, and hold the parts together until the glue has grabbed. Avoid PVA or plastic cement, as they will not bond resin effectively.

My paint is not sticking well to the resin. What can I do?

Wash the parts gently in warm, mildly soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry fully before priming. Always use a suitable primer on resin, then apply acrylic or enamel paints over the primer. Thin coats will adhere better than one heavy coat.

How should I prepare the parts before painting?

After any sanding and test fitting, wash the parts to remove dust and any remaining surface residue. Once dry, assemble as much as is practical, then apply a suitable primer. Priming will reveal any areas that need a final light sand before colour coats.

What paints work best on this kit?

The kit is designed for use with acrylic or enamel paints applied over a suitable primer. Choose paints you are comfortable with; both brush painting and airbrushing work well on the resin surface once primed.

Should I assemble everything before painting, or paint parts separately?

A mixed approach works well. It is usually best to assemble the main body and chassis frame first, then paint. Small details such as the hand brake, seat, battery, and coupling blocks can be painted separately and added later, which makes it easier to reach all the nooks and crannies.

How fragile are the finished models, and how should I handle them?

Resin is inherently fragile, especially in thinner sections. Handle the model by the more solid parts of the body rather than fine details, and avoid dropping or flexing components. Once painted and sealed, treat it like any detailed scale model rather than a toy.
