Product details

This is a model of a Wickham Type 42 Inspection car to use with a Tenshodo Spud chassis. The spud fits easily into place and uses the screw that comes with the spud. The main body is a drop fit onto the sub chassis so you can paint it before assembly. The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK. I also include a dummy Spud chassis so that you can use the kit as a static display in a siding or diorama should you not wish to buy a spud. You can of course at a later date convert it to a running model.

The sale is for the body , the sub-chassis and dummy spud , it is unpainted and without the real tenshodo spud which is shown for information purposes only. (Also not included is the diorama/rail/figures etc, this offer is just for the Wickham)

The second picture shows the kit painted and sitting in a diorama so you can see how good the finish is.

If you search on google for "Tenshodo motor bogie" you will find them easily. Anything up to the 26mm wheelbase will work with these or you can use the dummy included.

The kit may require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched by Royal Mail. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included with this Wickham Type 42 Inspection Car kit?

The kit includes the Wickham Type 42 body, a sub-chassis, and a dummy Tenshodo Spud chassis. All parts are supplied unassembled (where applicable), unprimed, and unpainted, with all printing supports removed. The real powered Tenshodo Spud motor bogie, track, diorama, figures, and any other scenic items shown in photos are not included.

What chassis does this kit use as a runner?

The kit is designed to work with a Tenshodo Spud (Tenshodo motor bogie). Anything up to a 26 mm wheelbase will work with this body and sub-chassis. The powered Spud is not supplied with the kit; it is shown in photos for information only.

Can I use the model as a static display without a powered Spud?

Yes. A dummy Spud chassis is included so you can build the Wickham as a static model in a siding or diorama without buying a powered unit. You can always convert it later to a running model by fitting a real Tenshodo Spud.

Is the kit pre-painted or ready to run?

No. The kit is supplied unpainted and not assembled as a running model. All parts are cleaned and cured by hand and are ready for you to prime, paint, and assemble. You will need your own paints, primer, glue, and, if desired, a Tenshodo Spud motor bogie.

How is the kit produced and where?

The Wickham Type 42 kit is printed in high-detail resin in the UK. Each item is cleaned and cured by hand, and supports are removed before dispatch. Some very light finishing may still be required before painting.

How is the kit packaged and shipped?

The kit is dispatched by Royal Mail. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the interior packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

My Tenshodo Spud doesn’t seem to fit correctly. What should I check?

First confirm that your Tenshodo motor bogie has a wheelbase of 26 mm or less. The Spud should drop into place in the sub-chassis and be secured using the screw supplied with the Spud itself. Make sure there are no bits of sprue or resin left in the mounting area, and that the Spud is oriented correctly before tightening the screw.

The body doesn’t sit properly on the sub-chassis. How can I fix this?

The main body is designed as a drop-fit onto the sub-chassis. If it rocks or won’t sit flat, check for small bits of resin, dust, or paint build-up on the mating surfaces. Lightly sand or scrape any high spots and test-fit repeatedly until the body drops into place without force.

The resin surface shows faint support marks. Is this normal?

Yes. We do our very best to remove support marks, but with high-detail resin prints, some very fine marks can remain. These are usually removed with gentle sanding using fine-grit abrasive (for example 600–1000 grit) before priming.

A part arrived damaged in the post. What should I do?

If the piece has clearly been damaged during transit, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as possible and contact us. Resin is delicate, but we will always do what we can to help make things right where postal damage is involved.

I broke a part while handling or assembling it. Can this be replaced?

Resin can be quite delicate, so it is important to avoid dropping or stressing the parts. We cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely. However, if you do have an accident, you are welcome to get in touch and we will advise on possible repair approaches or replacement options where feasible.

Do I need to do any surface preparation before painting?

All parts are cleaned, cured, and supplied with supports removed, but some minor finishing may still be helpful. Common steps include:

  • Lightly sanding any remaining support marks or small imperfections.
  • Ensuring all dust and sanding residue is removed before priming.
  • Test-fitting the body and sub-chassis before committing to paint.

What kind of paint and primer should I use on the resin?

The kit is supplied unprimed and unpainted, ready for you to choose your preferred paint system. In general, use a primer that is suitable for resin and plastic miniatures, then apply your chosen model paints over the top. Always follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

Should I assemble the model before or after painting?

The main body is designed as a drop-fit onto the sub-chassis specifically so you can paint it before final assembly. Most modellers find it easier to:

  • Test-fit the parts first.
  • Paint body and sub-chassis separately.
  • Then assemble once the paint has fully cured.

How do I convert from a static model to a running model later?

If you build the kit using the dummy Spud, you can later remove the body and dummy unit and replace the dummy with a real Tenshodo Spud motor bogie (up to 26 mm wheelbase). Fit the powered Spud into the sub-chassis using the screw supplied with the Spud, then refit the body as before.

Any tips for handling and working with the resin parts?

Resin is detailed but can be fragile. To keep your Wickham in good shape:

  • Avoid dropping or twisting thin sections.
  • Use gentle pressure when sanding or test-fitting.
  • Support parts well when drilling or modifying.
