FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this driver figure and how tall is it?

This driver figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is approximately 59 mm tall, making it a good match for brands such as LGB and Bachmann in similar scales.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in the colours and style that best match your own locomotives and layout.

What is the figure made from?

The figure is 3D printed in the UK using high detail resin. The original pose comes from a 3D scan of a real person to give realistic proportions and body language.

How can this driver be used on my layout?

The figure is suitable as a driver either mounted in the cab of a locomotive or standing around in the yard. Many modellers use multiple copies to create a consistent crew look across their fleet.

How is the item packaged and shipped?

The figure is dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Packaging is eco friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the inner packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is this product suitable for children?

No. These figures are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can present a choking hazard, so they should be kept out of reach of children.

What should I do if my figure arrives broken in the post?

If the figure appears to have been damaged during transit, please take clear photos of the packaging and the damaged part as soon as possible and contact us. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always do our best to help put things right if the item was broken in the post.

Can the figure break easily?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially at thinner parts such as arms, hands, or accessories. Try to avoid dropping the figure or applying excessive pressure when handling, assembling, or fitting it into a cab.

Is the model ready to paint straight away?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand before dispatch. In most cases they are ready for priming, though you may wish to do some very minor finishing such as light sanding or trimming before painting, depending on your personal standards.

What kind of primer should I use?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer. Both give a good base for most model paints and help reveal any tiny areas you may want to smooth before final painting.

Why does my figure have small lines or tiny marks on the surface?

Because the figure is 3D printed, very fine layer lines or tiny artefacts can sometimes be visible under strong light or after priming. These are usually minimal and can often be removed with gentle sanding or filling if you want an ultra-smooth finish.

My figure does not stand perfectly flat. What can I do?

If the base of the figure is not sitting perfectly flat, you can lightly sand the bottom of the feet on fine sandpaper laid on a flat surface. Take off a little at a time and test frequently until the figure stands as you wish.

The resin feels slightly glossy or slick. Will paint still adhere?

Yes, paint will adhere once the figure is properly primed. If you feel the surface is very slick, you can gently wash the figure in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent, allow it to dry completely, and then apply your chosen primer.

What should I do if a small part snaps while I am handling or fitting the figure?

If a small part such as a hand or arm breaks during handling, you can usually repair it with a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue). Make sure both surfaces are clean and dry, apply a tiny amount of glue, hold in position until set, and then touch up the repair after priming and painting.

How can I avoid damaging the figure while working on it?

Handle the figure by the more solid areas, such as the torso or legs, rather than thin extremities. When painting, many modellers mount the figure on a holder or temporary base so they can turn it without touching the delicate parts.

Do I need to assemble any parts, or is the figure one piece?

This driver is supplied as a single resin figure, so there is no multi-part assembly required. You may, however, wish to test-fit and slightly adjust the pose relative to your cab or yard scene before painting.

How should I prepare the figure before priming?

Check the figure under good light and, if needed, gently remove any tiny nubs or marks with a sharp hobby knife or fine sanding sticks. Avoid heavy sanding that could remove detail. Once you are happy, you can move straight to priming with your chosen primer.

Can I trim or modify the figure to fit a specific locomotive cab?

Yes, many modellers carefully trim boots, the base of the figure, or occasionally adjust arms to better fit a particular cab or seating position. Use a sharp knife or fine files and remove material slowly, checking the fit often.

What paints work well over the recommended primers?

Most hobby paints designed for miniatures and models work well over Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, including acrylics and enamels. Apply thin coats and allow each layer to dry fully to preserve the fine detail.

Any tips for painting a realistic driver for G-scale layouts?

For a realistic look, consider:

  • Using slightly muted clothing colours to avoid a “toy-like” appearance.
  • Adding subtle shading and highlights to folds in clothing.
  • Picking out details such as buttons, belts, and boots with fine brushes.
  • Finishing with a light matt or satin varnish to protect your paintwork once fully dry.
