FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this figure and how tall is it?

This seated figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 (the same scale used by brands like LGB and Bachmann) and is approximately 61 mm tall when standing.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in your own style to match your layout or collection.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is 3D printed in the UK using high detail resin, which captures the realistic look and pose from the original 3D scan of a real person.

Is this figure suitable for children?

No, these figures are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts that can be a choking hazard and are intended for adult hobbyists and collectors.

How is the figure packaged and shipped?

The figure is dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Our packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the inner packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Under what license is this figure sold?

The figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

What should I do if my figure arrives broken in the post?

If your figure arrives damaged, please take clear photos of the item and the packaging and contact us. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always see what we can do to help put things right if damage occurs in transit.

Can the figure break easily?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially at thinner parts, so please handle the figure carefully and avoid dropping it. Once the item has arrived safely, we cannot be held responsible for accidental damage.

Do I need to do any finishing work before painting?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but the figure may require some minor finishing before painting, such as gently removing small print marks or tidying up the base to your own standard.

Is the figure suitable for outdoor garden railways?

The figure is G-Scale 1:22.5, which is commonly used for garden railways. However, as it is made from resin and supplied unpainted, you will need to prime and paint it with suitable paints and sealers if you plan to use it outdoors.

Can I modify or convert the figure?

Yes, many modellers enjoy converting figures. You can carefully trim, reposition, or add details using standard modelling tools and materials, taking care not to stress the more delicate resin parts.

The surface looks slightly rough in places. Is this normal?

Minor surface texture or tiny artefacts can occur with high-detail resin printing. This is normal and usually disappears after a light sanding and a coat of primer. Any noticeable marks can be gently smoothed before painting.

My figure seems slightly warped or bent. What can I do?

Occasionally, thin resin parts can show slight warping. You can often correct this by:

  • Gently warming the part in hand-hot (not boiling) water
  • Carefully bending it back to the desired position
  • Holding it in place under cold water until it sets

Always work slowly and cautiously to avoid snapping the resin.

The primer is not adhering well. How can I fix this?

If primer beads or fails to stick, try the following:

  • Lightly wash the figure in warm water with a drop of mild detergent
  • Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely
  • Apply several light coats of primer rather than one heavy coat

Halfords grey primer or Tamiya fine surface primer are both suitable options.

There are small bits or tags left on the figure. How do I remove them?

Any small remnants from the printing process can be carefully removed with a sharp hobby knife, fine needle files, or fine-grit sanding sticks. Work slowly and support the part to avoid stressing the resin.

My figure arrived slightly shiny or slick. Is that a problem?

A slight sheen can be normal after curing. A gentle wash in warm, soapy water followed by a thorough rinse and dry will help the primer adhere and remove any remaining residue from handling or packing.

What primer should I use on this resin figure?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya fine surface primer, both of which work well on high detail resin and give a good base for further painting.

Do I need to wash the figure before priming?

Although the figures are cleaned by hand, it is good practice to give them a quick wash in warm water with a tiny amount of detergent, then rinse and dry. This helps remove any remaining dust or handling oils and improves primer adhesion.

What type of paints work best on this figure?

Once primed, most hobby acrylic or enamel paints designed for models will work well. Apply several thin coats rather than one thick coat to preserve the fine detail from the 3D scan.

How can I get the most realistic finish from the sculpted details?

Because the figure is scanned from a real person, it has natural folds and features. To bring these out, you can:

  • Use thin base coats to avoid clogging detail
  • Add gentle washes into folds and creases
  • Drybrush raised areas to highlight texture

Taking your time with these steps will really showcase the realism of the sculpt.

Do I need to seal the paint once I am finished?

While not essential, many modellers like to protect their work with a clear matt, satin, or gloss varnish, especially if the figure will be handled frequently or used on a working layout.
