FAQ – Product FAQs
General Product FAQs
What exactly do I receive with this K6 phone box kit?
You receive a G-scale K6 phone box set, resin printed in grey. The order includes one K6 phone box, one telephone, one shelf, one plinth, and three pieces of clear PETG for you to cut to size for the glazing. All parts are supplied unprimed, unpainted, and unassembled (where applicable), with supports removed.
Is this model already painted like in the photos?
No. The photos showing a painted phone box are for reference only, to give you an idea of how it can look on your layout. Your model will arrive unpainted in grey resin, ready for you to prime and paint in your own style.
What scale is this K6 phone box suitable for?
This is a G-scale version of the classic K6 phone box. It also works very nicely for GN-15 layouts and other similar large-scale model railway or diorama settings where a K6 phone box would look at home.
Is the figure shown in the pictures included?
No. The figure seen in the photos is for scale and scene-setting only and is not included with the kit. He is just there waiting to make a call!
What material is the model made from?
The pieces are resin printed in grey. The windows are supplied as three clear PETG pieces for you to cut to size and fit into the phone box.
Is this suitable for beginners to model building?
Yes, this is a straightforward scenic piece. The parts arrive cleaned, cured, and with supports removed. Some light sanding and basic assembly are all that is usually required, making it suitable for anyone comfortable with simple model work like priming, painting, and gluing small parts.
Troubleshooting FAQs
My model arrived with a broken part, what should I do?
If the piece appears to have been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact the seller. While breakages after delivery cannot be covered, postal damage will be reviewed and the seller will see what can be done to help.
There are faint marks or lines on the surface, is this normal?
Yes. The models are resin printed and support marks are carefully removed by hand, but some very fine marks can remain. A little gentle sanding with fine-grade abrasive paper or sanding sticks will usually smooth these out before priming.
Some parts seem a bit delicate, how should I handle them?
Resin can be quite delicate, especially on thin details. Handle the parts carefully, avoid dropping them, and do not force pieces into place. Test-fit gently, sand where needed, and use a suitable model adhesive rather than pressing parts too hard.
The clear PETG pieces don’t seem to fit the window openings.
The clear PETG is supplied as flat pieces for you to cut to size. Measure the window openings on the phone box, mark out the sizes on the PETG, and cut carefully with a sharp blade or fine scissors. Test-fit and trim gradually until they sit neatly in place.
The paint isn’t sticking well to the resin, what can I do?
Make sure the parts are clean and dry before priming. If needed, gently wash them in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent, then let them dry completely. Always use a suitable primer for resin before applying your main paint layers; this greatly improves adhesion and durability.
Assembly & Painting FAQs
How do I assemble the phone box and its interior parts?
Dry-fit all parts first to understand how they sit together. Typically, you will:
- Attach the plinth to the base of the phone box.
- Fit the shelf inside the box at your chosen height.
- Attach the telephone to the interior wall or shelf.
- Install the cut-to-size PETG glazing inside the window frames.
Do I need to sand the parts before painting?
All items are cleaned, cured, and have supports removed, but some fine sanding may still be required. Lightly sand any visible support marks or rough areas, then dust off the sanding residue. This will give you a smoother surface for priming and painting.
Should I prime the model before painting?
Yes. All pieces are supplied unprimed and unpainted, and resin takes paint best over a good primer. Apply a thin, even coat of primer suitable for resin models. Once the primer is fully dry, you can follow up with your chosen colours.
When should I fit the clear PETG windows – before or after painting?
It is usually easiest to paint the phone box first and then fit the clear PETG windows afterwards. That way you avoid getting paint on the glazing. You can also mask the window openings during painting to keep the inner surfaces clean and ready for the PETG.
Any tips for painting the classic red K6 look?
For a traditional K6 appearance, many modellers:
- Prime the model in grey or white.
- Apply a rich red topcoat in thin layers to build up colour.
- Pick out details such as signage and interior telephone features with a fine brush.
- Add gentle weathering if desired to help it blend into your layout.
