FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this figure and how tall is it?

This figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is approximately 75mm tall, making it ideal for layouts that use LGB, Bachmann and similar G-scale stock.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in your own colours to match your railway, era and weathering style.

How are these figures created?

The figures are 3D scanned from real people to capture realistic looks and natural poses, then printed in high detail resin here in the UK.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is printed in high detail resin, which is excellent for capturing fine details but should be handled with care as it can be delicate.

How is the item shipped and in what condition?

The figure is supplied new, cleaned and cured by hand, and dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. The exterior packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The interior packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is this product suitable for children?

No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can be a choking hazard.

Can I use this figure outdoors on my garden railway?

The figure is suitable for G-scale layouts such as garden railways, but as with all resin figures, it is best to protect it with a good primer and paint, and avoid prolonged exposure to harsh weather where possible.

Can I modify or convert the figure?

Yes, many modellers carefully trim, reposition slightly, or add accessories. Just remember that resin is delicate, so work slowly and support small parts while cutting or sanding.

Is this figure sold under license?

Yes, the figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

Does the figure come with a base?

The description refers to the figure itself only. You can mount it on your own base or directly onto your layout using an adhesive suitable for resin.

What should I do if the figure arrives broken?

If the piece has been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. We will review the images and see what we can do to help make things good.

What if I accidentally break the figure after it arrives?

Resin can be quite delicate and we cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived. However, simple breaks can often be repaired with a good quality cyanoacrylate (super) glue applied carefully.

The figure has small marks or support nubs – is this normal?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and some very minor marks or support points may remain. These can usually be removed with light sanding or careful trimming before priming.

The figure looks slightly shiny or slick – will primer stick?

Yes. Before priming, you can gently wash the figure in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild detergent, then let it dry completely. This helps primer adhere evenly to the resin surface.

The figure does not stand perfectly flat on my layout – how can I fix this?

If the base of the feet is slightly uneven, you can gently sand the bottoms on fine sandpaper laid on a flat surface, or fix the figure to a small base or platform on your layout using adhesive.

Do I need to do any preparation before painting?

Most figures are ready to prime, but a little preparation helps:

  • Check for any small support marks and gently remove them.
  • Lightly wash the figure in lukewarm, soapy water and let it dry.
  • Handle by the base or pin the feet to a holder while painting.

Which primers work well on this figure?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, both of which give a good key for acrylic or enamel top coats.

What type of paints can I use?

Once primed, you can use your usual model paints, such as acrylic or enamel, applied in thin coats. The key is to avoid flooding the fine details with heavy paint layers.

Do I need to sand the figure before priming?

Full sanding is usually not necessary. Just smooth any visible support marks or rough spots with fine-grit sanding sticks or files, taking care around small details.

How can I mount the figure securely on my layout?

Common methods include:

  • Gluing directly to the scenery with a suitable adhesive for resin.
  • Drilling a small hole in one or both feet and inserting a pin or wire into the baseboard.
  • Attaching the figure to a small scenic base that can be blended into the layout.
