FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this figure and how tall is it?

This figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is approximately 75 mm tall, making it ideal for layouts that use LGB, Bachmann and similar G-scale stock.

Is the figure supplied painted?

No, the figure is supplied unpainted. It is intended for hobbyists who enjoy priming and painting their own figures to match their layouts.

How are these figures created?

The figures are 3D scanned from real people to capture realistic looks and natural poses, then printed in high detail resin here in the UK.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is printed in high detail resin. This allows for fine detail but also means the model should be handled with care as resin can be delicate.

How are the items packaged and shipped?

The figures are dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Our packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the inner packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is this product suitable for children?

No, these items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard.

What should I do when the figure first arrives?

Carefully unpack the figure and inspect it for any damage. Because the resin is delicate, avoid bending thin parts. If you plan to paint it, you may wish to give it a light clean and check for any minor finishing needed before priming.

Does the figure come with any accessories or a base?

The description refers to a single unpainted figure only. Any additional accessories, bases or scenery items shown on your layout would need to be sourced separately.

Where is this figure produced?

The model is printed, cleaned and cured in the UK using high detail resin, then packed and dispatched from there.

Is this an officially licensed design?

Yes, the figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

Can I use this figure outdoors on a garden railway?

The figure is suitable in scale for garden railways, but as it is resin, you should protect it with suitable primer and paint, and avoid prolonged exposure to harsh weather where possible.

How fragile is the resin figure?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially at thinner parts like arms, hands and accessories. Try to avoid dropping or flexing the figure. Once the item has arrived safely, we cannot be responsible for accidental breakages during handling or use.

What if my figure arrives broken in the post?

If the piece is damaged during delivery, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. We will review the situation and see what we can do to help put things right.

The surface looks slightly rough or has small marks. Is this normal?

Because each figure is cleaned and cured by hand, you may occasionally see tiny marks or support points. These are normal for resin prints and can usually be smoothed with light sanding or careful scraping before priming.

What should I do if the figure doesn’t stand properly in my scene?

If the figure is slightly unstable, you can gently level the feet with fine sandpaper or mount the figure onto a base using a small pin and model glue. Always work slowly to avoid stressing the resin.

Can I repair a small break myself?

Minor breaks can often be repaired with a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) designed for models. Hold the parts in position until the bond sets, and avoid using excessive glue which can obscure detail.

Why does my figure look slightly different from the photos?

Each figure is individually printed and finished, so there can be slight variations in orientation of the print and tiny surface details. The pose and overall appearance remain consistent with the scanned original.

Do I need to wash the figure before painting?

The items are cleaned and cured by hand before dispatch, but many modellers still like to give the figure a gentle wash in lukewarm water with a drop of mild detergent, then allow it to dry fully before priming.

What primer should I use on this figure?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, both of which work well on resin and help paint adhere smoothly.

Do I need to do any preparation before priming?

Inspect the figure for any small imperfections or faint support marks and carefully remove them if needed. Ensure the figure is clean, dry and free from dust or grease before applying primer.

What type of paints work best on this resin figure?

Once primed, most hobby acrylic model paints work very well on resin. Enamels can also be used over a suitable primer, but always test on a small area first.

How can I get the most realistic finish when painting?

Because the figure is 3D scanned from a real person, it rewards careful painting. Thin your paints, build up colour in layers, and use gentle shading and highlighting to bring out the detail in clothing and facial features.

Can I sand or modify the figure before painting?

Yes, you can carefully sand, drill or lightly reshape small areas if needed, but always do so gently to avoid cracking the resin. Work with fine files or sandpaper and take your time, especially around thin parts.
