Can I use this figure outdoors on a garden railway?

Many modellers do use resin figures on garden railways. However, as with all resin models, it is wise to prime and paint thoroughly and avoid prolonged exposure to harsh weather to keep the details crisp.

What should I do if my figure arrives broken?

If the figure appears to have been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as you notice it. Contact us with the images and we will see what we can do to help put things right.

What if I accidentally break the figure after it arrives?

Resin can be delicate, and unfortunately we cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely. For that reason, handle the figure gently and avoid dropping or bending any fine details.

The figure looks slightly rough in places. Is that normal?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but resin printing can sometimes leave very minor surface marks or faint layer lines. A light sand or scrape in those areas before priming is perfectly normal and helps achieve the best finish.

My primer or paint is not sticking well. What can I do?

If paint is not adhering, gently wash the figure in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely. Then re-prime using a suitable primer such as Halfords grey primer or Tamiya fine surface primer before repainting.

The figure seems slightly warped or bent. How can I fix it?

Very slight bends can sometimes be corrected by carefully warming the area with warm (not boiling) water, gently straightening it, and then holding it in place under cold water. Always take care not to over-bend or snap delicate parts.

Do I need to wash the figure before painting?

The figures are cleaned and cured by hand, but many modellers still like to give them a quick wash in lukewarm soapy water, then rinse and dry. This helps remove any remaining handling residue and gives the primer the best surface to grip.

What primer should I use on this resin figure?

We recommend using Halfords grey primer or Tamiya fine surface primer. Both give a smooth, even base coat that works very well with the high-detail resin and prepares it for acrylic paints.

What type of paint works best on this model?

Acrylic paints are recommended. They adhere well over a suitable primer, dry quickly, and are easy to thin and clean up, making them ideal for picking out the fine details of the figure.

Do I need to do any preparation before priming?

Check the figure for any tiny mould lines or support marks. If you find any, gently remove them with a fine file, sanding stick, or sharp hobby knife. After that, ensure the figure is clean and dry before applying primer.

Any tips for painting realistic clothing and details?

Work in thin layers of acrylic, starting with a mid-tone base colour and then building up shadows and highlights. For a realistic look, you can:

  • Use slightly muted colours rather than very bright tones.
  • Add a thin wash into folds and creases to bring out depth.
  • Finish with small highlights on raised areas like knees, elbows and hat brims.

Can I glue this figure to my layout or rolling stock?

Yes. Once painted and fully dry, you can attach the figure using a suitable model adhesive. Many modellers use a small spot of cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a removable tacky adhesive if they want to reposition the figure later.
