FAQ – Product FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is this model based on?
This small station building takes its design influence from the station building at Minffordd on the Ffestiniog Railway, recreated here in TT (Table Top) scale for model railway layouts.
What scale is the building?
The building is in TT (Table Top) scale, which is currently experiencing a resurgence with new locomotives, carriages, wagons and track being released to match.
What are the dimensions of the model?
The footprint of the building is 33 mm x 30 mm, and it is 29 mm tall. This makes it ideal for small stations or as a standalone halt on a TT layout.
Is this suitable for any TT layout, or only Ffestiniog-themed layouts?
Although inspired by Minffordd station on the Ffestiniog Railway, the building is designed to work well on any small TT station scene or as a simple halt, whether your layout is Welsh narrow-gauge themed or not.
Does the model come painted?
No, the model is supplied ready to paint. This allows you to choose colours that best match your layout or the prototype you are modelling.
Is the model supplied from stock or made to order?
The model is shipped from stock and is ready to paint straight out of the box, so you can get it onto your layout quickly.
My model arrived with a slightly rough surface. Is that normal?
A light texture can be normal on some cast or printed models. You can gently smooth it before painting if desired, taking care not to remove fine detail.
The building does not sit flat on my baseboard. What should I do?
Check that your baseboard or platform surface is level and free of bumps. If the building still rocks, you can lightly sand the underside of the model or use a thin layer of adhesive or filler to bed it down flat.
Paint is not adhering well to the model. How can I fix this?
Before priming, wash the model gently in warm, mild soapy water and allow it to dry fully to remove any release agents or dust. Then apply a light coat of normal car primer as recommended, followed by your acrylic paints.
The details look a bit soft after painting. What might be wrong?
This usually happens when paint layers are too thick. Use thin coats of primer and acrylic paint, allowing each coat to dry before the next. If necessary, strip the paint carefully and start again with lighter coats.
The colour on my building looks patchy. How can I improve the finish?
Ensure you have an even coat of primer first. Then apply multiple thin coats of acrylic paint rather than one heavy coat. A final light weathering wash can also help blend any slight variations.
Do I need to assemble any parts, or is it one piece?
The description indicates the model is supplied ready to paint, so you should not need to assemble multiple parts. You can place it on the layout and go straight to priming and painting.
What kind of primer should I use?
Normal car primer is recommended. A light spray coat provides a good key for acrylic paints and helps them adhere evenly to the surface.
Which paints work best on this model?
Acrylic paints are suggested for this building. They are easy to work with, dry quickly, and work well over a car primer base.
Do you have any tips for painting this station building?
Yes, a few simple steps help a lot:
- Wash and dry the model before priming.
- Use a light coat of car primer as a base.
- Apply acrylic paints in thin layers, building up colour gradually.
- Consider a gentle weathering wash to bring out brickwork and details.
How can I make the building blend into my layout?
Once painted, bed the building into your scenery with matching platform surfaces, ballast, and ground cover. A little weathering on the building to match your track and surroundings will help it look like part of the scene rather than a separate object.
