FAQ – Product FAQs

General Product FAQs

What exactly is this figure?

This is an unpainted 3D-printed resin figure of a railway Guard, 3D scanned from a real person to capture realistic looks and natural posing. It is designed for use on model railways and dioramas.

What scale and size is the figure?

The figure is G-Scale 1:22, suitable for layouts that use LGB, Bachmann and similar scales. The Guard is approximately 85 mm tall.

Is the figure supplied painted?

No, the figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it to suit your own railway company colours and layout style.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is printed in the UK using high-detail resin. This allows for very fine features and crisp details, ideal for close-up viewing on G-scale layouts.

How is the figure packaged and shipped?

The condition is new and items are dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the inner packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is this product suitable for children?

No, these figures are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard, so they are intended for adult hobbyists and collectors.

Troubleshooting FAQs

My figure arrived damaged in the post, what should I do?

If your figure appears to have been damaged during postage, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always see what we can do to help make things good when damage occurs in transit.

The resin looks a bit rough in places, is this normal?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and most will be ready to prime straight away. However, some figures may require minor finishing, such as very light sanding or scraping of small imperfections, before painting. This is normal for high-detail resin prints.

Parts seem delicate and I’m worried about breaking them, any advice?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially at finer details. Handle the figure by the sturdier parts of the body, avoid dropping it, and take care when cleaning, sanding or transporting it. We cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely.

The figure doesn’t stand securely on my layout, what can I do?

If the figure feels unstable, you can lightly sand the base to ensure it is flat, or fix it to your layout using a small dab of suitable glue. Some modellers also mount figures on thin plastic or metal bases that are then blended into the scenery.

The surface looks shiny after curing, will primer still stick?

Yes, primer will still adhere to the cured resin. If you are concerned, you can lightly scuff the surface with very fine sandpaper or a sanding sponge before priming to improve mechanical key, especially on larger flat areas.

Assembly & Painting FAQs

How should I clean the figure before painting?

The figures are already cleaned and cured by hand. Before priming, you can gently rinse the figure in lukewarm water and allow it to dry fully, or simply dust it off with a soft brush to remove any particles from handling or storage.

What primer should I use?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, both of which work well on this high-detail resin. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat to preserve the fine details.

How do I add the Guard’s paper flag?

The figure is designed to be suitable as a Guard and simply needs a paper flag added. Cut a small flag to your preferred shape and colour from thin paper, attach it to a suitable rod or staff (such as wire or plastic rod), and glue it carefully into the Guard’s hand once painting is complete.

What type of paints work best on this resin figure?

After priming, most hobby acrylic model paints work very well on resin, giving good coverage and control. Enamels can also be used over a suitable primer if that is your preferred system. Always allow the primer to cure fully before applying colour coats.

Do I need to do any assembly before painting?

The Guard is supplied as a single unpainted figure, so there is no complex assembly required. You may wish to:

  • Remove any minor print marks or nubs with a fine file or hobby knife.
  • Test-fit and plan where you will attach the paper flag.
  • Mount the figure temporarily on a holder (such as a cork or painting handle) to make painting easier.
