Product details
This is our Cabbed Quarry Hunslet unpainted kit in 009 scale with the full cab style. It is designed to easily clip onto a Kato 11-109 motor bogie chassis, one of the pictures shows how the clips easily work. It can also be removed easily by using a small flat bladed screwdriver to ease the clips free one at a time. First picture is of a painted model, this is an unpainted kit and is show with scenery for example only and is not included.
The boiler is seperate so that it can be easily painted and drops into the body which in turn simply fits onto the chassis. If you wish to glue it, then something like Roket card glue provides a semi-permanent fix so that it can still be removed. Otherwise superglue can be used to permanently fix things. The handrail is supplied along with the four posts and you can either cut it into two lengths, or loop it around the chimney as seen on original engines.
This is a great easy to build kit highly detailed locomotive that will look really nice on a layout and can be easily added to if required with extra detail.
We print our own models here in the UK using high detail resin. The sale is for the kit chassis, posts, hand rail, body and interior, it is unpainted and the kato chassis is shown for information only.
Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint. We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required. All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed. Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we can't be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will of course see what we can do to help.

Cabbed Quarry Hunslet 009 Kit – Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is included in this Cabbed Quarry Hunslet 009 kit?
The kit includes the unpainted resin body with full cab, separate boiler, interior, four handrail posts and the handrail itself. It is supplied as a kit ready for you to assemble, prime and paint. The Kato 11-109 motor bogie chassis and any scenery shown in photos are for illustration only and are not included.
Which chassis is this kit designed to fit?
This kit is designed to clip directly onto a Kato 11-109 motor bogie chassis in 009 scale. The body simply clips onto the chassis using the built-in clips shown in the product photos.
Is this kit pre-painted or ready-to-run?
No, this is an unpainted kit. All parts are supplied cleaned, cured and with supports removed, but they are unassembled (where applicable), unprimed and unpainted. You will need to assemble, prime and paint the model yourself.
What material is the model made from?
The model is 3D printed in high detail resin. Each kit is printed, cleaned and cured by hand in the UK, with support marks removed as far as possible before dispatch.
How detailed is the model, and can I add extra details?
The kit is a highly detailed representation of a cabbed quarry Hunslet in 009 scale and looks very effective on a narrow-gauge layout. It is also suitable for further detailing if you wish to add extra parts or personalise the locomotive.
Is this kit suitable for beginners?
Yes, this is intended as an easy-to-build kit. The body clips onto the Kato 11-109 chassis, and the separate boiler drops into place, making assembly straightforward for anyone with basic model railway or kit-building experience.
The body feels tight on the Kato 11-109 chassis. How should I fit it?
Align the body carefully over the Kato 11-109 chassis and press down gently until the clips engage. Do not force it. If it feels very tight, check for any small bits of resin or flash inside the body that might need very light sanding before clipping it in place.
How do I remove the body from the chassis without damage?
Use a small flat-bladed screwdriver to ease each clip free one at a time. Work slowly around the chassis rather than trying to release all clips at once. This reduces stress on the resin and helps prevent breakages.
The boiler does not seem to sit correctly in the body. What should I check?
Ensure the boiler and the body are completely free of dust, paint build-up or stray resin. The boiler is designed to drop into the body, so a tight fit usually means there is a small obstruction. Lightly sand any high spots and test-fit repeatedly until it sits neatly.
My kit arrived with minor marks where supports were removed. Is this normal?
Yes, very fine support marks can occasionally remain even after careful cleaning. These are usually minimal and can be smoothed with light sanding before priming. We do our best to remove supports and marks, but a little finishing work is sometimes needed.
A part was damaged in the post. What should I do?
If a part arrives broken, please take clear photos of the damage and contact the seller. While we cannot be responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely, we will of course see what we can do to help if the damage occurred in transit.
What glue should I use to assemble the kit?
For a semi-permanent bond that can still be undone if needed, Roket card glue works very well. For a permanent fix, you can use superglue. Apply glue sparingly and avoid getting it on visible surfaces, as it can mark the resin.
How should I attach the boiler to the body?
The boiler is designed to drop into the body. You can leave it as a push-fit for easy removal during painting and maintenance, or glue it in place once you are happy with the fit. Roket card glue is recommended if you want the option of removing it later; superglue will make the joint permanent.
How do I fit the handrail and posts?
Position the four handrail posts in their locating points on the body first. Then thread the supplied handrail through the posts. You can either:
- Cut the handrail into two separate lengths, one for each side, or
- Loop the handrail around the chimney, as seen on some original quarry Hunslet locomotives.
Secure with a tiny amount of suitable glue once you are happy with the alignment.
Do I need to do any sanding or surface preparation before painting?
Most support marks are removed before shipping, but some fine sanding may be required. Inspect the model under good light and gently sand any remaining marks or slight ridges. Always wash the parts in mild soapy water, rinse and allow to dry fully before priming.
How should I prime and paint the resin parts?
Once cleaned and dry, apply a suitable primer designed for plastic or resin models in light coats. After the primer has cured, paint using your preferred model paints, building up thin layers for a smooth finish. Allow each coat to dry fully before handling or reassembly.
