FAQ – Product FAQs

Water Wagon (GN-15) – Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in the water wagon kit?

The kit includes one resin bogie frame, one single water barrel, a pair of 12.5mm diameter spoked wheels, and a length of rope-effect cord. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, ready for you to prime, paint, and finish to your own taste.

What scale or gauge is this wagon designed for?

This wagon is designed specifically for GN-15 operations, making it ideal for narrow-gauge layouts that use GN-15 stock and track standards.

What is the wagon intended to represent on my layout?

The model represents a small industrial-style water or beer wagon. It is suitable for supplying water or vital supplies to workers, or for transporting valuable cargo for customers around your layout.

What material is the kit made from?

The main components are crafted from high-quality resin. Resin allows for crisp detail but should be handled with care, as it can be delicate and may break if dropped or stressed.

Does the kit come pre-painted or pre-assembled?

No, the kit comes unassembled and unpainted. You will need to assemble the parts and then prime and paint the wagon yourself. This gives you full control over the final look and weathering.

Do I need any additional parts to get the wagon running?

The kit includes the bogie frame and 12.5mm spoked wheels needed for the wagon itself. You will need your own GN-15 compatible track, couplings, and any layout-specific fittings you prefer, as these are not included.

What should I do if parts arrive damaged?

If any parts arrive broken or badly warped, contact the seller with clear photos of the damage and your order details. Keep all packaging until the issue is resolved, as it can help assess what happened in transit.

My wagon doesn’t roll smoothly. How can I fix this?

First, check that the 12.5mm spoked wheels are seated properly in the bogie frame and that the axles are parallel. Make sure there is no excess glue on the axle points or inside the wheel recesses. Lightly sanding any rough spots on the bearing surfaces can also help improve running.

The resin surfaces look rough or have marks. Is this normal?

Some fine sanding is often required. Support marks from the printing process may still be visible in places. Use fine wet-and-dry paper or sanding sticks to gently smooth these areas before priming, taking care not to remove detail.

The rope-effect cord won’t stay in place. What can I do?

Shape the cord first, then fix it with a small amount of suitable glue. If it springs back, try lightly pre-forming it around a barrel or dowel and securing it in stages rather than all at once. Avoid using too much glue, as it can soak into the cord and become messy.

My paint isn’t adhering well to the resin. How do I improve this?

Wash all resin parts gently in warm, soapy water and let them dry completely before priming. Use a suitable primer formulated for resin or plastic miniatures. Once primed, most acrylic model paints will adhere much better and give a smoother finish.

How do I assemble the main components of the wagon?

Dry-fit the bogie frame, barrel, and wheels first to understand the fit. Then:

  • Attach the 12.5mm spoked wheels to the bogie frame, ensuring they sit square and turn freely.
  • Position and glue the water barrel securely on the frame.
  • Add the rope-effect cord in your chosen position once the main assembly is solid.
Use small amounts of glue and allow each stage to cure before moving on.

What type of glue should I use on the resin parts?

Most modellers use cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a good-quality epoxy for resin. Apply sparingly with a cocktail stick or fine applicator. Avoid solvent-based plastic cements, as they are usually designed for styrene and may not bond resin effectively.

How should I prepare the surfaces before painting?

After any necessary fine sanding, wash the parts in warm, soapy water to remove dust and any remaining mould-release or handling oils. Let them dry thoroughly, then apply a thin, even coat of primer. This preparation helps paint adhere and reveals any areas that may need further sanding.

Any tips for painting and weathering the water wagon?

Once primed, build up colours with thin coats of acrylic paint. For a realistic look, you might:

  • Use slightly different tones on the barrel and frame to suggest varied materials.
  • Add subtle washes into recesses to bring out details.
  • Dry-brush lighter shades on edges to highlight wear.
  • Apply gentle weathering to suggest water stains or general yard grime.
Work in layers and let each coat dry fully before adding the next.

How can I paint the rope-effect cord realistically?

Prime the cord, then paint it in rope-like tones such as light tan or buff. A thin darker wash will settle into the grooves and bring out the texture. Finally, a light dry-brush with a paler shade on the raised strands will give it a convincing, fibrous look.
