FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly do I get with this Post Box set?

You receive four grey resin-printed pieces in total: two free-standing G-scale post boxes and two wall-mounted G-scale post boxes. Figures and painted examples shown in photos are not included.

What scale are these post boxes suitable for?

These post boxes are designed for G-scale layouts and are also suitable for GN15 scenes, making them ideal for garden railways, indoor G-scale layouts, and small dioramas.

Do the models come painted or primed?

No, all pieces come unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. They are ready for you to prime and paint in your own colours and style.

Are the items assembled when they arrive?

Most pieces are supplied as a single part, but if any item requires assembly, it will arrive unassembled. All supports are removed and the parts are cleaned and cured by hand before shipping.

How are the models finished before shipping?

Each piece is cleaned and UV-cured by hand, and all supports are removed. We do our best to minimise support marks, but you may find a few small areas that benefit from light sanding before priming.

Can I use these outdoors on a garden railway?

The pieces are resin printed, so they can be used outdoors if they are properly primed and painted, ideally with weather-resistant paints and varnish. Long-term exposure to strong sunlight and weather may still cause wear over time.

My item arrived broken in the post, what should I do?

If your post box arrives damaged from shipping, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. We will review the images and see what we can do to help resolve the issue.

What if I break a piece after it arrives?

Resin can be quite delicate, so please handle the models carefully and avoid dropping them. We cannot be held responsible for breakages that occur after delivery, but many small breaks can be repaired with cyanoacrylate (super glue).

Why are there faint lines or marks on the surface?

Any faint lines or tiny marks you see are usually from the support removal and the 3D printing process. We remove supports and clean the models by hand, but a little fine sanding before priming will give the smoothest finish.

The pieces look slightly warped or bent, is this normal?

Slight variation can occur with resin prints, but obvious warping is not expected. If a piece seems badly distorted straight out of the box, please photograph it and contact us so we can advise on possible fixes or next steps.

The paint is not sticking well to the resin, what can I do?

If paint is beading or not adhering, it usually means the surface needs a better key. Gently wash the parts in warm soapy water, let them dry fully, then apply a suitable primer before painting. Light sanding with fine grit can also help paint grip.

How should I prepare the models before painting?

For best results:

  • Lightly wash the parts in warm, soapy water and let them dry completely.
  • Inspect for any small support marks and gently sand them with fine sandpaper.
  • Apply a suitable primer for resin models.
  • Once primed, you can apply your chosen colours.

What paints do you recommend for these post boxes?

A simple and effective scheme uses Tamiya acrylics: Black X-1, Red X-7, and White X-2. You can, of course, use other hobby acrylics or enamels designed for miniatures and models.

Do I need to glue anything together?

Most post boxes in this set are one-piece prints and do not require assembly. If a version is supplied in more than one part, you can use a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) to assemble it after test-fitting the parts.

How can I get a smooth, realistic finish on the post boxes?

After priming, build up your colour in thin coats rather than one thick layer. Lightly sand between coats if needed, and finish with a clear matte or satin varnish to protect the paint and blend everything together.

Any tips for mounting the wall post boxes on a building?

Test-fit the wall-mounted boxes on your structure first. Mark the position, then use a small amount of cyanoacrylate or a strong contact adhesive. Hold in place until the glue grabs, and avoid excess glue that might squeeze out around the edges.
