What exactly is included in this crate set?

This set includes 16 grey resin-printed pieces: two collapsible-style crates, two ribbed crates, and twelve plastic-style crates. The G-scale figure shown in some photos is not included and is only there to indicate scale.

What scales are these crates suitable for?

These crates are designed for G-scale and GN15 layouts. They work especially well in workshop, industrial, or platform scenes, or anywhere you want scattered detail items on a layout or diorama in these scales.

Do the crates come painted or primed?

No, all pieces come unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. They are ready for you to prime and paint in your own colour scheme to match your layout.

How are the parts finished before shipping?

Each piece is cleaned and cured by hand, and all supports are removed before shipping. We do our best to remove support marks, but you may find a few areas that benefit from light sanding before priming.

Are these crates solid or do they open?

The crates are supplied as fixed resin pieces intended as scenic details. They are not designed to open or be functional storage; they are purely for visual use on your layout or diorama.

How fragile are the resin crates?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially on thinner details. The crates are fine for normal handling on a layout, but you should avoid dropping them or applying excessive pressure, as they may break or chip.

Troubleshooting FAQs

My crate arrived broken in the post, what should I do?

If your item has clearly been damaged in transit, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as possible and contact the seller. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always see what we can do to help with postal damage.

I can still see faint support marks, is this normal?

Yes, light support marks can occasionally remain even after careful cleanup. This is normal with resin printing. A little fine sanding or scraping with a sharp hobby knife will usually remove them before priming.

The surface looks slightly rough in places, how can I fix it?

Minor roughness can be smoothed by gently sanding with fine-grit sandpaper or sanding sticks. Work slowly and check often so you do not lose surface detail. Once smoothed, wash off any dust before priming.

The pieces look slightly warped, can I straighten them?

Very slight warping can sometimes be improved by carefully warming the piece in hand-hot (not boiling) water, gently bending it back into shape, and then holding it in position under cool water. Always be cautious, as resin can snap if forced.

Paint is not sticking well to the resin, what might be wrong?

If paint is beading or not adhering, the surface may still have dust or skin oils. Wash the parts gently in warm soapy water, rinse and let them dry thoroughly, then apply a suitable primer before painting. Most issues disappear once a good primer coat is used.

Assembly & Painting FAQs

Do these crates require any assembly?

No assembly is required. Each crate is supplied as a single piece with all supports removed. You only need to clean, prime, and paint them before placing them on your layout.

How should I prepare the crates before painting?

For best results:

• Inspect for any remaining support marks and lightly sand if needed.
• Wash the pieces in warm soapy water and rinse well.
• Allow them to dry completely.
• Apply a suitable primer for resin before your main colours.

What type of paint works best on these resin pieces?

Acrylic model paints work very well once the crates are properly primed. Enamels can also be used over a compatible primer. Always test on a hidden area first if you are unsure about paint compatibility.

Can I weather the crates to look more realistic?

Yes, these crates are ideal for weathering. After your base colours, you can add washes, dry-brushing, and pigments to suggest dirt, wear, and age. This helps them blend naturally into workshop, platform, or industrial scenes.

How can I safely handle the crates while painting?

To avoid fingerprints and accidental drops, you can:

• Attach the underside of each crate to a temporary handle (such as a stick or old sprue) with a small blob of removable adhesive or double-sided tape.
• Paint and weather the piece while holding the handle.
• Remove the handle once everything is fully dry and cured.
