FAQ – Product FAQs
What exactly do I get with this set?
You receive six G-scale chemical plastic barrels, resin printed in grey. All supports are removed, the pieces are cleaned and cured by hand, and they arrive unprimed and unpainted, ready for you to prime, paint and place on your layout or diorama.
What scale are these barrels suitable for?
These barrels are designed for G-scale and work very nicely in workshop or industrial scenes. They are also a great fit for GN-15 layouts where you want chunky, characterful yard clutter.
Are the barrels supplied painted or finished in any way?
No, the barrels are supplied unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. They are fully cleaned, cured and have their supports removed, but the final priming, painting and weathering is left to you so you can match your own layout’s style.
Do the barrels come assembled?
The barrels are supplied as resin printed pieces, unassembled if any separate parts are required. In most cases you simply take them out of the packet, do any light sanding needed and then prime and paint them.
What kind of scenes do these barrels work best in?
They are ideal for workshops, industrial yards, depots and any area where you’d expect to see chemical or plastic drums lying around. They are great for adding everyday clutter that brings a layout or diorama to life.
Is a figure included with the barrels?
No, the figure shown in any example scenes is not included. He’s busy working in the workshop, so this listing is just for the six resin barrels.
My barrels arrived with slight marks on the surface. Is that normal?
Some very fine support marks can remain from the printing process, even though we do our best to remove them. A quick pass with fine sandpaper or sanding sticks will usually smooth these out before priming.
One of my barrels arrived damaged in the post. What should I do?
If a barrel is broken on arrival, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact us. We’ll review the images and see what we can do to help put things right.
I dropped a barrel and it broke. Can you replace it?
Resin can be quite delicate, so dropping the parts can cause breakages. We can’t be held responsible for damage after safe delivery, but you’re always welcome to get in touch and we’ll advise on repair options or additional orders.
Some barrels seem slightly warped or not sitting flat. How can I fix this?
Minor warping can sometimes be corrected by very gently sanding the base on fine sandpaper laid flat on a hard surface. Work slowly, check often, and stop as soon as the barrel sits flat on your layout.
The surface feels slightly tacky. Is that expected?
The pieces are fully cleaned and cured before shipping, so they should arrive dry to the touch. If you do notice any slight tackiness, leave them in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight for a short while, then lightly wash with mild soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly before priming.
Do I need to do any assembly before painting?
In most cases, the barrels are ready to go straight out of the packet. If there are any separate parts, dry-fit them first, then glue with a suitable model adhesive. Allow the glue to cure fully before priming and painting.
How should I prepare the barrels before priming?
For best results, lightly wash the barrels in lukewarm water with a drop of mild detergent, rinse well and let them dry completely. Then:
- Inspect for any remaining support marks.
- Gently sand any rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper.
- Handle by the base or use a holder to avoid fingerprints when priming.
What type of primer works best on these resin barrels?
Use a primer that is suitable for resin miniatures or plastic models. A light, even coat from a spray or airbrush primer designed for model-making will give the paint something to grip to and help reveal any areas that need a bit more sanding.
Can I use regular model paints on these barrels?
Yes, once primed you can use your usual model paints. Acrylic model paints are popular for resin pieces because they dry quickly and are easy to layer and weather. Just make sure the primer is fully dry before you start painting.
Any tips for painting them to look like real chemical barrels?
A simple approach is:
- Prime in grey or black.
- Apply a solid base colour (blue, red, green or dirty white all work well).
- Add a slightly lighter shade on raised areas for highlights.
- Finish with weathering: thin rust streaks, grime around the top and bottom rims, and a dusty dry-brush to tie them into your layout.
