Product details

This is a OO9 Steam loco based around the Atkinson Walker Steam railcar, it requires a KATO 109 (11-109) chassis which easily clips into place into the chassis. These were first built around the 1930's and one was also in use on the Clogher Valley railway. Similar in design to the Sentinel steam railcars. The main body is a drop fit onto the sub-chassis and allows for painting prior to assembly. In addition there is a seperate boiler and drive that can be used. The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK. The kit also comes with the 3D scanned figure.

The sale is for the body, sub-chassis and loading area only, it is unpainted and supplied without the KATO chassis which is shown for information only.

May require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched with by
Royal Mail for the UK and worldwide. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled and ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

FAQ – Product FAQs

OO9 Steam Loco – FAQ

What exactly is included in this OO9 steam loco kit?

The sale is for the unpainted resin body, sub-chassis and loading area only, plus a 3D scanned figure. The KATO 11-109 chassis shown in some images is not included and is for illustration purposes only.

Which chassis does this body fit?

The body is designed to take the KATO 109 (11-109) chassis. The chassis clips easily into the sub-chassis, giving you a smooth and simple installation once you have your KATO unit.

Is this model based on a real prototype?

Yes. It is a OO9 steam loco based around the Atkinson Walker steam railcar, similar in concept to Sentinel steam railcars. These vehicles were first built around the 1930s, with one used on the Clogher Valley Railway.

What scale and gauge is this model?

This is a OO9 narrow gauge loco body, intended for OO scale narrow gauge layouts using 9mm track, with the KATO 11-109 chassis providing the running mechanism.

How is the kit produced?

The kit is printed in the UK using high-detail resin. Each item is cleaned and cured by hand, then supplied unassembled so you can prime, paint and finish it to your own taste.

How is the item packaged and shipped?

The model is dispatched by Royal Mail within the UK and worldwide. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is partly made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, and the interior packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

The KATO chassis is missing from my parcel. Should it be included?

No. The KATO 11-109 chassis is not included with this kit. The listing is for the resin body, sub-chassis, loading area and 3D scanned figure only. Any images of the KATO chassis are for information and demonstration purposes.

My parts arrived broken in the post. What should I do?

If your kit has been damaged during transit, please take clear photos of the damage and packaging and contact the seller. While breakages after arrival cannot be covered, postal damage will be reviewed and the seller will do their best to help put things right.

There are faint marks on the surface. Is this normal?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand and support marks are carefully removed, but a few fine marks or slight texture may remain. These can usually be eliminated with light sanding before priming.

The chassis feels tight when clipping in. How should it fit?

The KATO 11-109 chassis is intended to clip easily into the sub-chassis. If it feels tight, check for any small resin nibs or print remnants and carefully remove them. Do not force the chassis; a gentle, even pressure should be all that is required once the fit is cleaned up.

The body does not seem to sit properly on the sub-chassis. What can I do?

The main body is designed as a drop fit onto the sub-chassis. If it rocks or sits high, check for:

  • Any stray resin or support remnants on the mating surfaces
  • Slight warping from handling or heat
  • Paint build-up on locating edges

Careful sanding or scraping of the contact points usually restores a snug, level fit.

The resin feels delicate. How should I handle it during troubleshooting?

Resin components can be quite delicate, so always handle them by the thicker sections, avoid twisting thin parts, and work over a soft surface to prevent damage if anything slips from your fingers.

Can I repair a small break myself?

Minor breaks can often be repaired with a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) or similar resin-compatible adhesive. Ensure the surfaces are clean and dry, test-fit the parts, then glue and hold gently until set, taking care not to stress surrounding details.

Do I need to assemble anything before painting?

No. The kit is supplied unassembled and is designed so that the main body, sub-chassis, boiler, drive and figure can be painted separately before final assembly. This makes it easier to reach all the details with your chosen colours.

What preparation is recommended before priming?

Although items are cleaned and cured by hand, it is good practice to:

  • Inspect for any remaining support marks and gently sand them
  • Lightly sand any glossy areas for better primer adhesion
  • Ensure the parts are free from dust before applying primer

What kind of paint can I use on the resin?

The parts are supplied ready for you to prime and paint. Use a suitable model primer for resin first, then follow with your preferred model paints. Thin coats work best to preserve the fine detail.

Should I test-fit parts before painting?

Yes. It is wise to dry-fit the body, sub-chassis, boiler and drive before painting. This lets you identify any areas that need minor sanding or adjustment so you do not damage finished paintwork later.

How do I fit the boiler and drive pieces?

The kit includes a separate boiler and drive that can be used with the main body and sub-chassis. Test-fit these parts in place, making any small adjustments needed, then glue them after painting once you are satisfied with the fit and alignment.

Any tips for protecting the model once finished?

After painting, you may wish to apply a suitable clear varnish to protect the finish. Always handle the loco by the stronger sections, avoid dropping the resin parts, and store it in a padded box or on the layout where it will not be knocked.
