FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale and size is this driver figure?

This driver is in 16mm scale (1:19) and stands at approximately 92mm tall, making him ideal for 16mm, Garden Railway and SM32 layouts.

Is the figure suitable for outdoor garden railways?

Yes, the figure is suitable for 16mm and garden railway use. As with all resin models, it is best to seal and paint the figure properly to help it stand up to outdoor conditions.

Is the model supplied painted or unpainted?

The model is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in the colours and style that best match your own railway.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is 3D printed in high detail resin, using scans of real people to achieve realistic looks and poses.

Where is the model produced and shipped from?

The model is printed, cleaned and cured by hand in the UK and dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. The outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The inner packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

My figure arrived with a broken part, what should I do?

If the figure appears to have been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and get in touch. We will review the images and see what we can do to put things right.

What if I break the figure after it arrives?

Resin can be quite delicate and can break if dropped or handled roughly. We cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely, but you are always welcome to contact us for advice on possible repairs.

The surface looks slightly rough in places, is this normal?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and some very minor surface texture or small marks can occur. A light sand or scrape before priming is normal for resin figures and helps achieve a smooth painted finish.

The figure doesn’t stand perfectly flat, how can I fix this?

Minor warping or unevenness can sometimes occur with resin. You can gently sand the bottom of the feet or base on fine sandpaper laid on a flat surface until the figure stands correctly.

There are small bits of support or flash on the model, what should I do?

Although we clean models by hand, a little extra finishing may occasionally be needed. Carefully trim any small tags or flash with a sharp hobby knife and smooth the area with fine sandpaper before priming.

Is this figure safe for children to play with?

No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can be a choking hazard, and the resin is intended for adult hobby use only.

How should I prepare the figure before painting?

Inspect the figure for any small supports or mould lines and remove them carefully. Then lightly sand any rough areas and ensure the surface is clean and dry before applying primer.

Which primers work best on this resin?

We recommend Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, both of which adhere well to the resin and give a good base for your chosen paints.

Do I need to wash the model before priming?

The figures are cleaned and cured by hand, so further washing is usually not necessary. If you prefer, you can give the model a gentle wash in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent, then allow it to dry completely before priming.

What kind of paints can I use after priming?

Once the model is properly primed with a suitable primer such as Halfords grey or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, you can use your usual model paints (for example, acrylics or enamels) according to the paint manufacturer’s instructions.

Any tips for painting a realistic 16mm driver?

Because the figure is based on a 3D scan of a real person, it rewards careful painting. Consider using thin layers of paint, adding subtle shading to clothing folds and picking out details like buttons, boots and facial features to bring the driver to life on your garden railway.
