Product details
The models are designed to be easily glazed if you require with the internal surfaces flat to take a piece of plastic.
Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint. We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required. All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed. Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we can't be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will of course see what we can do to help.

FAQ – Victorian Style Greenhouse & Cold Frame Models
What exactly is included in this set?
The set includes two detailed models of typical Victorian-style greenhouses along with two cold frames, all supplied unpainted. Any figures or scenic items shown in photos (such as the photographer figure) are for scale and display only and are not included.
What material are the models made from?
The models are 3D printed in the UK using high-detail resin. This material captures fine detail very well but should be handled with care as it can be delicate.
Are the models supplied painted or assembled?
The models are supplied unprimed and unpainted. They are cleaned and cured by hand, and all supports are removed. Some items may be in separate parts and will arrive unassembled if needed, ready for you to prime, assemble, and paint.
What scale are these greenhouses and cold frames?
The listing images use a photographer figure purely for scale reference. Please refer to the product title and listing details on the shop page for the exact scale, as this FAQ only covers the general product information.
Can these models be glazed?
Yes. The greenhouses are designed with flat internal surfaces so you can easily add glazing using clear plastic sheet if you wish. Glazing material is not included, but the design makes it straightforward to cut and fit your own.
Are these suitable for outdoor garden railways?
The models are resin and can be used outdoors if they are properly primed, painted, and sealed. However, long-term exposure to strong sunlight and weather may affect any painted model, so we recommend using good-quality primers, paints, and clear coats suitable for outdoor use, and checking them periodically.
My model arrived with a broken part. What should I do?
If your item appears to have been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as possible and contact the seller. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after delivery, we will always do our best to help if the damage occurred in transit.
There are faint marks where supports were removed. Is this normal?
Yes. All items are cleaned by hand and support structures are removed before shipping. Very fine marks can sometimes remain and are usually easy to smooth out with light sanding before priming. This is normal for high-detail resin prints.
My model seems slightly warped. Can I fix it?
Minor warping can sometimes be gently corrected by carefully warming the part in lukewarm (not boiling) water, adjusting it, and then holding it in the correct position as it cools. Always test on a small, less visible area first and avoid excessive heat, which can damage resin.
The parts don’t seem to fit perfectly. How can I improve the fit?
Dry-fit all parts before gluing. If a joint is tight or slightly misaligned, lightly sand the contact surfaces with fine-grit sandpaper until they seat cleanly. Remove any sanding dust before gluing, and use a suitable adhesive for resin.
The surface looks slightly shiny or slick. Will paint stick properly?
Resin can sometimes have a slightly slick surface. For best results, gently wash the parts in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, let them dry completely, and then apply a good-quality primer designed for plastic or resin before painting. This helps paint adhere evenly.
What glue should I use to assemble the models?
Use a glue suitable for resin, such as cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a dedicated resin/epoxy adhesive. Apply sparingly to clean, dry contact surfaces. Avoid solvent cements intended only for styrene, as they may not bond resin effectively.
Do I need to do any sanding or preparation before painting?
All supports are removed and the models are cleaned and cured by hand, but some fine sanding may still be required, especially where supports were attached. Lightly sand any visible marks or slight imperfections, then wash, dry, and prime before painting for the best finish.
How should I prime the greenhouses and cold frames?
After cleaning and drying the parts, use a primer suitable for resin or plastic. Spray primers work very well for even coverage. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat, allowing each to dry fully. A neutral grey or white primer is ideal for most garden and greenhouse colour schemes.
What type of paint works best on these models?
Acrylic model paints are usually the easiest to work with on resin. They adhere well over a suitable primer, dry quickly, and clean up with water. Enamels and lacquers can also be used if you are comfortable with them and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use over resin.
How can I add realistic glazing to the greenhouses?
Cut clear plastic sheet (such as clear styrene, acetate, or packaging plastic) to size and glue it to the flat internal surfaces designed for glazing. Use a clear-drying adhesive that will not fog the plastic. Fit the glazing after painting the main structure for the neatest result.
Any tips for painting a realistic Victorian greenhouse finish?
Many modellers choose soft whites, creams, or muted greens for the frames, with slightly weathered effects to suggest age. You can:
- Apply a base coat in your chosen frame colour.
- Add subtle dry-brushing in lighter tones on edges.
- Use thin washes of grey-brown to pick out panel lines and add depth.
- Lightly weather the cold frames with earth tones to blend them into the garden scene.
