What exactly is included in the OO9 Victorian Toilet Carriage kit?

The kit includes one unpainted, round-ended resin wagon body designed to represent a Victorian Toilet Carriage in OO9 scale. The Peco NR-121D 10ft wheelbase chassis is not included, and any painted models shown are for reference only.

Which chassis does this kit fit?

This body is designed specifically to fit the Peco NR-121D 10ft wheelbase chassis. It has been sized to sit neatly on that chassis so you can convert it into a Victorian Toilet Carriage for your OO9 layout.

What track and scale is this kit designed for?

The kit is OO9 scale, which means it is built to OO proportions but runs on 9mm gauge track (the same gauge as N scale track). It is ideal for narrow gauge layouts such as quarry, industrial, or light railways.

What skill level is this kit suitable for?

This is a beginner-friendly kit. Assembly is essentially fitting the resin body to the Peco NR-121D chassis and then priming and painting the body. Basic modelling skills such as careful handling, light sanding, and brush or airbrush painting are all that is required.

Is the kit supplied painted or ready-to-run?

No, the kit is supplied unpainted and unassembled. You will need to provide the Peco NR-121D chassis, assemble the body to the chassis, and then prime and paint the model yourself. Any painted examples are just to show what the finished model can look like.

Is the resin body durable enough for regular layout use?

The resin is UV-cured and hand-finished, but it is still relatively fragile compared with injection-moulded plastic. It is perfectly suitable for regular layout running if handled with care, but avoid dropping, crushing, or rough handling, especially during assembly and transport.

The body doesn’t seem to sit correctly on my Peco NR-121D chassis. What should I check?

First, make sure you are using the correct Peco NR-121D 10ft wheelbase chassis. Check for any small resin nibs or printing remnants on the underside of the body and gently remove them with a fine file or sanding stick. Also ensure there are no moulding sprues or burrs on the chassis that might prevent a flat fit.

The resin surface looks slightly rough in places. How can I fix this?

Minor sanding or clean-up is normal. Use fine-grit sandpaper or a sanding sponge (around 600–1000 grit) to smooth any rough patches or layer lines. Sand lightly and check often so you do not remove surface detail. Once smooth, clean away dust before priming.

My primer is not adhering well to the resin. What can I do?

Before priming, wash the resin body gently in warm water with a small amount of mild detergent, then rinse and allow it to dry completely. Use a suitable primer such as Simonez or an automotive primer designed for plastics. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat to improve adhesion.

The paint finish looks patchy or uneven. How can I improve it?

Patchy finishes often come from insufficient priming or paint applied too thickly. Ensure the model is evenly primed, then build up colour with multiple thin coats of acrylic paint, allowing each coat to dry fully. Stir or shake your paint thoroughly and keep your brush or airbrush clean during the process.

A small part of the resin body has been damaged. Can it be repaired?

Small chips or knocks can usually be repaired with modelling putty or a small amount of thick cyanoacrylate (superglue) and then sanded smooth once cured. Because the resin is fragile, handle the model by the stronger areas when working on it, and always support it securely on a soft surface to avoid further damage.

How should I prepare the resin body before assembly and painting?

Carefully inspect the body for any remaining support marks or small bumps and gently sand them smooth. Wash the body in warm, soapy water to remove any residue, rinse well, and let it dry completely before test-fitting it to the chassis and applying primer.

What primer should I use on this resin model?

Use Simonez primer or a good-quality automotive primer suitable for plastic and resin. Apply in light, even coats from a suitable distance, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next. A well-primed surface will greatly improve the final paint finish.

Which paints work best on this kit?

Acrylic paints are recommended for this kit. They adhere well over a suitable primer, dry quickly, and are easy to clean up. You can use either brush painting or airbrushing, depending on your tools and experience.

When should I fit the body to the Peco chassis—before or after painting?

Many modellers prefer to test-fit the body to the chassis first, then remove the chassis while priming and painting the body. Once the paint is fully cured, refit the body to the chassis. This helps avoid accidentally gluing or painting moving parts on the chassis.

Any tips for achieving a realistic Victorian finish on the carriage?

After priming, choose muted, period-appropriate colours for the body and roof using thin coats of acrylics. You can then add gentle weathering with washes or dry-brushing to suggest age and use, especially around panel lines and lower edges. Always build up effects gradually so you keep control over the final look.
