Frequently Asked Questions – Brick Built Water Storage Tower
What exactly do I receive with my order?
You receive one brick built water storage tower, resin printed in grey. The piece is supplied unprimed and unpainted, with all printing supports removed, and may be unassembled if needed.
What are the dimensions of the water tower?
The tower is approximately 39mm x 26mm at the base and about 60mm tall, making it a nice compact feature for a range of model layouts.
What material is the tower made from?
The tower is resin printed. Each piece is cleaned and cured by hand before being sent out, ready for you to prime and paint.
What colour does the model come in?
The model comes in grey resin. This neutral colour makes it easy to see details and is ideal as a base for your chosen primer and paint scheme.
Is the water effect included?
No, clear plastic for the water effect is not included. The top of the tank has small recessed tabs so you can add your own piece of clear plastic, painted on the underside to represent water.
Is this suitable for beginners to model building?
Yes. The tower arrives with supports removed and only light cleanup and painting required. As long as you are comfortable with basic sanding, priming and brush or airbrush painting, you should find it straightforward to finish.
My tower arrived with faint support marks. Is that normal?
Yes. We do our very best to remove support marks during cleanup, but some fine sanding may still be required. This is normal for resin printed pieces and is usually resolved with light sanding and primer.
What should I do if the tower arrives damaged from the post?
If the piece is broken in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as you can. Contact us with the images and we will see what we can do to help.
Can you replace parts if I break them after delivery?
Resin can be quite delicate, and we cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely. However, you are always welcome to contact us; if we can suggest a repair approach, we will.
How fragile is the resin tower?
The resin captures fine detail but is more delicate than metal or some plastics. Avoid dropping the model or applying heavy pressure to thin sections. Handle it by the base or solid sections whenever possible.
How should I clean the model before painting?
Because the pieces are already cleaned and cured by hand, only a light surface prep is usually needed. A gentle rinse in lukewarm soapy water, followed by a thorough dry, helps remove any remaining dust before priming.
The base of my tower is slightly uneven. How can I fix it?
Minor unevenness can often be corrected by gently sanding the bottom on a sheet of fine sandpaper placed on a flat surface. Take off a little at a time and test fit on your layout until it sits flat.
I can still see layer lines or rough spots after priming. What now?
Allow the primer to dry, then lightly sand the rough areas with fine grit sandpaper or sanding pads. Re-prime those spots if needed. The first coat of primer often reveals where a bit more smoothing is helpful.
What glue should I use if my model arrived in separate parts?
For resin parts, a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) works well. Apply a small amount to one surface, press the parts together, hold for a few seconds, and allow it to cure fully before handling or painting.
Can I drill or modify the resin to add pipes or details?
Resin can be carefully drilled or carved, but it is brittle. Use a pin vise or low-speed drill, work slowly, and support the part firmly to reduce the risk of cracking. Always test on an inconspicuous area first.
How do I add the clear plastic “water” to the tank top?
Cut a piece of clear plastic to fit the recessed tabs on the top of the tank. Paint the underside of the plastic with your chosen water colour (for example, a mix of greens and browns), let it dry, then drop it into place so the unpainted side faces up.
What primer should I use on the grey resin?
Use a primer formulated for miniatures or plastic/resin models. Both spray and brush-on primers work well. Apply in thin, even coats to avoid obscuring the brick detail on the tower.
Any tips for painting the brickwork?
After priming, apply a base brick colour, then use a thin wash to pick out the mortar lines. A gentle drybrush with a lighter tone over the raised bricks brings out the texture and makes the brickwork pop nicely on a layout.
How do I protect the paint job once I am finished?
Once the paint is fully dry, apply a clear varnish suitable for models. A matte or satin finish usually looks best on brick. Spray in light coats to avoid pooling, and allow plenty of drying time between coats.
