Country Petrol Station Hut & Pumps – FAQ
What exactly is included in this kit?
The kit includes an O gauge / O-16.5 country petrol station hut and two pumps, plus accessories. In the box you’ll find: the hut and separate door, 7 glazing pieces for the hut, 2 petrol pumps, 4 glazing pieces for the pumps, 4 printed pump faces, 1 telephone, and 1 3D-scanned owner figure. Everything is supplied unpainted and (if needed) unassembled.
What are the dimensions of the hut?
The hut is approximately 33mm x 40mm x 47mm, making it suitable for O gauge and O-16.5 layouts where a small country petrol station or garage-front forecourt is needed.
Are the models supplied painted or primed?
All parts are supplied unprimed and unpainted. The painted photos are for information and inspiration only. You will need to prime and paint the hut, pumps, figure, and telephone yourself.
What material is the kit made from?
The kit is 3D printed in high-detail resin. All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and supports are removed before packing, though a little fine sanding may still be needed.
Is any rolling stock or vehicles included?
No. The sale is for the hut, two pumps, telephone, glazing, pump-face prints, and the owner figure only. The lorry shown in some photos is not included and is for illustration purposes only.
Where are the models produced?
All models are printed in the UK using high-detail resin, with cleaning, curing, and support removal done by hand before dispatch.
My kit arrived with a part broken in the post. What should I do?
If something has clearly been damaged in transit, please take clear photos of the breakage and packaging and contact the seller. They will review the images and see what can be done to help. Resin is delicate, so handle parts carefully when unpacking.
Some parts look slightly rough where supports were removed. Is that normal?
Yes. Support marks are minimised during finishing, but with fine-detail resin printing a little texture or faint marks can remain. These are usually easily smoothed with light sanding using fine-grit abrasive before priming.
The glazing pieces don’t seem to fit. What can I do?
Check that each glazing piece is matched to the correct window or pump panel; they are small and can be mixed up. If a piece is very tight, lightly sand the edges of the glazing or the inside of the frame until it slides in without force. Do not bend the resin parts, as they can snap.
One of the small parts is warped or slightly bent. Can I fix it?
Mild warping on thin resin parts can often be corrected by gently warming the piece in hand-hot (not boiling) water, carefully straightening it, then holding it in position under cold running water. Always test with a less visible part first and avoid excessive heat, which can damage the model.
The resin surface seems shiny and paint beads up. How do I fix this?
Wash the parts gently in warm water with a drop of mild detergent, using a soft brush to remove any residue. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely, then apply a suitable primer before painting. This usually solves any paint-adhesion issues.
What glue should I use for assembly?
For resin parts, a good-quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) is recommended. Apply sparingly to clean, dry surfaces. Avoid solvent cements intended for polystyrene, as they do not bond resin properly.
How should I prime the hut, pumps, and figure?
Use a primer suitable for resin miniatures, either brush-on or spray. Apply in thin, even coats to avoid obscuring detail. Light grey or off-white primers work well, giving a good base for both light and dark colours.
Do you have any tips for painting the petrol station realistically?
For a country petrol station look, consider muted, slightly weathered colours rather than bright, factory-fresh finishes. For example:
- Hut: off-white, cream, or faded stone with subtle dry-brushed highlights.
- Pumps: a main colour (red, green, or blue) with metallic nozzles and light chipping around edges.
- Owner figure: work clothes in earthy tones, with a slightly darker wash to pick out folds.
How do I use the glazing pieces and printed pump faces?
After painting and sealing the main parts, fit the glazing from the inside of the hut and pumps using tiny dots of clear-drying glue around the edges. The printed pump faces can be cut out carefully and fixed behind the pump windows or directly onto the pump fronts, depending on your preferred look.
Can I weather the model to make it look older?
Yes, resin takes weathering very well once primed and painted. Use thin washes, dry-brushing, and weathering powders to add oil stains, dust, and general grime around the pumps and hut base. Build up effects gradually so you don’t lose fine detail.
Any advice for handling and long-term care of the resin parts?
Resin can be delicate, especially on thinner details like the pumps and figure. Handle by the thicker sections, avoid dropping the parts, and store the finished model away from direct sunlight and extreme heat. Once painted and sealed with a clear varnish, the model will stand up well to normal layout use.
