FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this driver figure and how tall is it?

This driver figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is approximately 75mm tall, making it suitable for layouts similar to LGB and Bachmann G-scale setups.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted. It arrives ready for you to prime and paint in your own colour scheme.

How are these figures created?

The figures are 3D scanned from real people to capture realistic proportions, facial detail and natural poses, then printed in high-detail resin here in the UK.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is printed in high detail resin. Each item is cleaned and cured by hand before being packed for dispatch.

How is the item shipped and from where?

The figure is printed and dispatched from the UK and is normally sent via Royal Mail 2nd Class.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. The outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The inner packing materials are acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Is this figure suitable for children?

No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard.

Can the figure be used outdoors on a garden railway?

The figure is printed in resin and can be used on garden railways, but resin is delicate. If used outdoors, it is best to protect it from knocks, drops and prolonged harsh weather, and to ensure it is well painted and sealed.

Can I reposition or bend the figure?

No. The resin figure is a fixed pose and cannot be bent without risk of snapping. Any modifications should be done carefully by cutting and re-gluing, and are at your own risk.

Can I use this driver with other G-scale brands?

Yes. The figure is G-Scale 1:22.5 and is suitable for layouts similar to LGB, Bachmann and other compatible G-scale ranges.

Is this an original design?

The figure is sold under commercial licence from Design Scan Print 3D, using 3D scans of real people to achieve realistic detail.

What should I do if the figure arrives damaged in the post?

If the piece is broken in transit, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and contact the seller. They will review the images and see what they can do to help put things right.

What if I break the figure after it arrives?

Resin can be quite delicate and the seller cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely. Minor breaks can sometimes be repaired with a suitable cyanoacrylate (super glue), but this is at your own risk.

The figure has small marks or a slight texture. Is this normal?

Yes. Because the figures are hand cleaned and cured, you may see tiny artefacts or faint layer lines. These can usually be smoothed with very light sanding or a small amount of filler before priming.

My primer or paint is not adhering well. What can I do?

First, ensure the figure is clean and free of dust or grease. A gentle wash in lukewarm water with a drop of mild detergent, followed by thorough drying, usually helps. Then apply a suitable primer such as Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer before painting.

The figure seems slightly warped or not standing perfectly. How can I fix this?

Minor warping can sometimes be improved by very gently sanding the base to sit flat on your chosen surface. Always work slowly and test-fit often to avoid removing too much material.

Do I need to wash the figure before painting?

Although the items are cleaned and cured by hand, it is good practice to give the figure a light wash in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent, then rinse and allow it to dry fully before priming. This helps paint and primer adhere better.

Which primers work best on this resin?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer. Both give a fine, even surface that takes acrylic paints well.

What type of paints should I use?

Acrylic paints are recommended. They adhere well over a suitable primer, dry quickly and are easy to thin and clean up, making them ideal for figure work.

Do I need to do any finishing before priming?

Some figures may require minor finishing before painting. This can include:

  • Lightly sanding away small print artefacts or support marks
  • Filling tiny gaps with a fine modelling putty
  • Checking that the base sits flat on your chosen surface

Any tips for painting a realistic G-scale driver?

Work in thin layers of acrylic, starting with a solid basecoat over primer, then add simple highlights and shadows on clothing folds and the face. At 75mm tall the figure will reward a bit of extra detail, such as different tones on the cap, boots and workwear, but you do not need advanced techniques to get a pleasing result.

Can I glue the figure into a cab or onto the layout?

Yes. Once painted and fully dry, you can fix the figure in place with a small amount of suitable model glue. Test-fit first to ensure the pose works in your cab or yard scene before committing to glue.
