A Ground Frame Hut Inspired by one at Buckfastleigh Station
A ground frame hut with glazing and ground frame.
This building takes its inspiration from a similar hut at Buckfastleigh station and the footprint of this model is 48mm x 39mm x 71mm high. This unique structure captures the essence of the huts that adorned railway networks of yesteryears essential to maintain the lever frames that controlled the points and signals nearby.
This kit comes with a separate roof, glazing, flooring fire buckets and desk that can be placed inside.
When painted, this is a nice addition to any layout. It can be painted with normal car primer and acrylic paints.
The model is shipped from stock and is ready to paint. This listing is for seven resin printed pieces in grey. The pictures showing it painted are for examples only and are not included.
Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.
We do our very best to remove support marks, but some fine sanding may be required.
All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed.
Remember, the delicacy of resin calls for gentle handling. Though we can't be responsible for accidents after delivery, we're here to assist if any mishaps occur during transit. Just provide us with images, and we'll explore ways to lend a helping hand.

Ground Frame Hut Kit – Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is included in this Ground Frame Hut kit?
The kit includes seven grey resin-printed pieces that make up the hut. These pieces include the main hut body, a separate roof, glazing, flooring, fire buckets and a desk that can be placed inside. All parts are supplied unassembled (where applicable), unprimed and unpainted, with supports removed.
What are the dimensions of the finished hut?
The footprint of the assembled model is approximately 48mm x 39mm, and the hut stands about 71mm high. This makes it a compact but characterful addition to most model railway layouts.
Is this an exact model of the Buckfastleigh station hut?
No, it is not an exact scale copy. The building is inspired by a similar ground frame hut at Buckfastleigh station, capturing the look and feel of that style rather than reproducing every detail precisely.
What scale is this kit designed for?
The description focuses on the physical dimensions rather than a specific scale. You can judge suitability by comparing the 48mm x 39mm x 71mm size with your chosen scale and surrounding buildings and figures on your layout.
Does the kit come painted or pre-assembled?
No, the kit is supplied as seven separate grey resin pieces. They are cleaned and cured by hand, with supports removed, but they come unassembled (if needed), unprimed and unpainted so you can finish them to match your layout.
Are the painted models in the photos included?
No, the painted examples shown in any images are for illustration only. They demonstrate how the hut can look once painted, but the item you receive will be unpainted grey resin parts.
My parts arrived with a slight surface roughness. Is that normal?
Yes, slight surface marks or faint layer lines are normal for resin prints. Every item is cleaned and cured by hand and we do our very best to remove support marks, but some fine sanding may still be required to achieve a perfectly smooth finish before priming and painting.
One of the pieces arrived damaged. What should I do?
If you suspect damage during transit, please handle the parts gently and take clear photos of the affected areas. Contact the seller with these images so they can explore how best to help. While accidents after delivery cannot be covered, issues in transit will be reviewed and support offered where possible.
The roof or glazing does not seem to fit properly. How can I fix this?
Check first that any small bits of cured resin or flash are removed from the mating surfaces. A light pass with fine sandpaper or a small file on the edges can improve the fit. Dry-fit all parts before gluing so you can see where any minor adjustment is needed.
The model seems a bit warped. Can it be corrected?
Minor warping can sometimes be eased by very gently warming the resin (for example, in warm—not hot—water), carefully bending it back into shape and then holding it in position while it cools. Always test on a less visible area first and avoid excessive heat, which can damage the piece.
There is a slight shine or residue on the surface. Will this affect painting?
A slight sheen from the curing process is normal and will not harm the model. Before painting, it is good practice to give the parts a gentle wash in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent, then let them dry thoroughly. This helps primer and paint adhere better.
What should I use to glue the parts together?
Standard plastic model cements are usually not effective on cured resin. Instead, use a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a two-part epoxy for structural joins. Always dry-fit first, then apply a small amount of glue to avoid excess squeeze-out.
How should I prepare the resin parts before painting?
For best results, follow these steps:
- Inspect the parts and remove any remaining nibs or minor support marks.
- Lightly sand any rough areas with fine-grit sandpaper.
- Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of mild detergent, then rinse and let them dry fully.
- Once dry, you are ready to apply primer.
What type of primer and paint should I use?
The model can be painted with normal car primer and acrylic paints. A light coat of automotive aerosol primer works well to key the surface. Once primed, use your preferred acrylic paints to build up colour and weathering effects.
In what order should I assemble and paint the hut?
A simple approach is:
- Clean and lightly sand all parts.
- Test-fit the hut body, floor and roof without glue.
- Prime all parts while separate, including the interior items like the desk and fire buckets.
- Paint the interior details and inside walls first if you plan to show them through the glazing.
- Fit and secure the glazing once interior painting is complete.
- Assemble the main structure, then attach the roof.
- Add final exterior paintwork and weathering.
How can I paint the interior details like the desk and fire buckets?
Prime these small parts along with the rest of the kit. Use a fine brush and thin acrylic paints, building up colour in light coats. A dark wash and a gentle dry-brush can bring out the edges and give them a used, railway-yard look.
Any tips for handling and long-term care of the resin hut?
Resin is delicate and benefits from gentle handling. Try not to grip thin parts too firmly, avoid dropping the model and store it where it will not be crushed or bent. Once painted and fully cured, keeping it away from prolonged direct sunlight and high heat will help prevent warping over time.
