Product details
This is a 009 Hungarian Forestry Diesel Shunter Body For mounting onto a KATO 109 chassis.
It fits easily into place onto the Kato chassis by securely clipping onto the chassis, then the body is a push fit into the sub-chassis. This allows for easy painting prior to assembly and you can re-use the chassis if needed. The kit also comes with separate headlamps that can be painted before fitting. Holes are ready to take the brass wire included to form handrails. You'll need to cut and bend this, but it's only .3mm and can be easily cut with wire snippers and bends nicely with small nose pliers. The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK , see my other listings if you want to use one with the earlier KATO 103 chassis.
The sale is for the body, headlamps, wire and sub-chassis only, it is unpainted and supplied without the KATO chassis which where shown is for information only. The first picture shows mine painted, and is not included in the sale. The colour photo is of the real vehicle and is for painting reference purposes and is also not included ;)
May require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched by Royal Mail in the UK and Royal Mail for worldwide. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.
Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.
FAQ – Product FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is included with this 009 Hungarian Forestry Diesel Shunter body?
The sale is for the resin body, separate headlamps, brass wire for handrails, and the sub-chassis only. Everything is supplied unassembled (where applicable), unprimed, and unpainted. The KATO chassis, any painted examples, and the real-vehicle reference photo are shown for information and painting reference only and are not included.
Which chassis does this body fit?
This body is designed to mount onto the KATO 11-109 (often referred to as KATO 109) chassis. It clips securely onto the chassis, and the body is then a push fit into the sub-chassis. If you are using the earlier KATO 103 chassis, please see the separate listing that is designed specifically for that.
What scale and gauge is this model for?
This is a 009 narrow gauge diesel shunter body, suitable for OO9 layouts. It is designed to represent a Hungarian forestry diesel locomotive in 4mm scale running on 9mm gauge track, using the KATO 11-109 chassis as the power unit.
Is the model ready to run when it arrives?
No. This is a body kit only. It arrives as an unpainted, unprimed resin body with separate headlamps, brass wire, and sub-chassis. You will need to provide your own KATO 11-109 chassis, carry out any minor finishing, assemble the parts, and then prime and paint the model.
How is the item finished before dispatch?
All items are cleaned and UV-cured by hand, with all resin supports removed. We do our best to remove support marks, but you may find a little fine sanding improves the finish before priming and painting.
How is the model packaged and shipped?
The model is dispatched by Royal Mail within the UK and by Royal Mail for worldwide orders. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, and the internal packing materials are acid-free and made from approximately 99% recycled pulp fibres.
The body doesn’t seem to clip properly onto my KATO 11-109 chassis. What should I check?
First, make sure you are using the correct KATO 11-109 chassis and that there are no leftover sprues or flash on the resin parts. Check that the chassis is fully seated in the sub-chassis and that the clip areas are free of paint or debris. A very light clean of the mating surfaces and gentle, even pressure when clipping the body on usually solves fitting issues.
The push-fit body feels loose in the sub-chassis. How can I improve the fit?
Because the body is designed as a push fit, small variations can occur. If the fit feels loose, you can:
- Ensure there is no dust or paint build-up in the locating areas.
- Apply a very small amount of non-permanent adhesive (such as a tiny dot of tacky glue) to hold it in place.
- Very carefully add a thin layer of primer or varnish on the mating surfaces to tighten the fit.
One of the resin parts arrived damaged. What should I do?
If the piece appears to have been damaged in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as possible and get in touch. While we cannot cover accidental breakages after arrival, we will always do our best to help if something has been damaged during transit.
The resin feels delicate. Is that normal?
Yes. High-detail resin allows for fine features but can be quite delicate, especially around thin sections like handrail areas and lamp brackets. Avoid dropping the parts or applying excessive force. Handle the body and small parts by the thicker sections whenever possible.
I can see faint support marks or layer lines. How can I tidy these up?
Although supports are removed and the model is cleaned and cured by hand, some fine marks may remain. These can usually be smoothed with gentle sanding using fine-grit abrasive (e.g. 800–1200 grit). Take your time around raised details and test-fit parts again after any sanding.
Do I need to wash the parts before priming?
The parts are cleaned and cured before dispatch, but many modellers like to give resin parts a quick wash in mild soapy water and let them dry fully before priming. This can help primer adhesion, especially if you have handled the model a lot during test fitting.
How do I assemble the body onto the KATO 11-109 chassis?
Assembly is straightforward:
- Place the KATO 11-109 chassis into the supplied sub-chassis so it clips securely in place.
- Test-fit the resin body as a push fit onto the sub-chassis, checking that it sits level and square.
- Once you are happy with the fit (usually after painting), push the body firmly but gently into place.
No permanent fixing is required, which also allows you to re-use the chassis in future if you wish.
When should I paint the body and separate parts?
The body and parts are designed so you can paint them before final assembly. Most modellers will:
- Clean up any minor support marks.
- Prime the body, headlamps, and handrails separately.
- Apply colour coats and any weathering.
- Then fit the headlamps and handrails and finally mount the finished body onto the chassis.
How do I use the brass wire for handrails?
Holes are pre-formed in the body to accept the included brass wire. Cut and bend the 0.3 mm wire to shape using small wire snippers and fine-nose pliers. Test-fit the wire in the holes before painting. Once you are happy with the fit, you can either paint the handrails separately and then glue them in place, or fit them and then paint them along with the body.
What is the best way to paint the separate headlamps?
The headlamps are supplied as separate resin parts so you can paint them easily. Many modellers will:
- Prime the lamps on a cocktail stick or holder.
- Paint the lamp body in the same colour as the locomotive body or a contrasting colour.
- Pick out the lens area with silver or a suitable lens colour.
- Glue the finished lamps into place after the main body is painted and varnished.
Do I need any special tools or materials to finish this kit?
You will find the following useful:
- Fine files or sanding sticks for minor clean-up.
- Small wire snippers and fine-nose pliers for the 0.3 mm brass wire.
- Plastic- or CA-type glue suitable for resin parts.
- Primer and acrylic or enamel paints for finishing.
No specialist tools beyond typical model railway or scale modelling tools are required.
