Product details
Here is our Hunslet Yardmaster Diesel unpainted kit in OO scale, featuring a highly detailed cab and body. Designed to fit effortlessly onto a BD Concepts 28mm motor bogie chassis, this model provides an easy, secure fit. One of the pictures demonstrates how the motor installed, making it simple to attach and remove the body using a small flat-bladed screwdriver if needed. The Motor is NOT included, you need to source this yourself.
The roof is separate, allowing for easy painting and detailing before assembly. It simply drops into place on the body. For a semi-permanent fix, we recommend Roket card glue, while superglue can be used for a more permanent bond. Handrails and Glazing are supplied as well as Hornby NEM Close couplers along with a rod for the exhaust. The motor and body are light, so it is recommended that extra weight is added, either liquid gravity or lead pieces which can be added at each end of the body. See picture for example, and again, these are not included.
This is a highly detailed yet easy-to-build kit, perfect for adding character to an industrial or narrow-gauge layout. Additional detailing can be added if desired.
We 3D print our models in high-detail resin here in the UK. This sale includes the unpainted kit consisting of the chassis clips, handrails, body, and interior. The BD Concepts chassis is shown for reference only and is not included.
Finishing:
All models are cleaned and cured by hand before shipping. They come unassembled (where necessary) and are ready for priming and painting. We carefully remove support marks, but some fine sanding may still be required. Please note that resin is delicate, so handle with care to avoid breakages. If your item arrives damaged in the post, send us a photo, and we’ll do our best to help.
FAQ – Product FAQs
Hunslet Yardmaster Diesel OO Scale Kit – Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is included in this Hunslet Yardmaster Diesel kit?
The kit includes the 3D-printed resin body and cab, separate roof, interior, chassis clips, handrails, glazing, Hornby NEM close couplers, and a rod for the exhaust. It is supplied unpainted and unassembled (where necessary), ready for priming, painting, and detailing.
Is the motor or chassis included with the kit?
No, the motor and chassis are not included. The body is designed to fit a BD Concepts 28mm motor bogie chassis, which is shown in the photos for reference only. You will need to source the BD Concepts chassis and motor separately.
What scale and gauge is this model suitable for?
This is an OO scale unpainted kit, ideal for industrial and narrow-gauge style layouts. It is designed around the BD Concepts 28mm motor bogie chassis to give the correct proportions for a compact yard diesel locomotive.
What material is the kit made from?
The kit is 3D printed in high-detail resin here in the UK. Each model is cleaned and cured by hand before shipping to ensure crisp detail and a good surface ready for priming and painting.
Do I need any extra parts to complete the model?
To complete the model as a working locomotive, you will need a BD Concepts 28mm motor bogie chassis and motor, plus your own paints, primer, glue, and any extra detailing parts you wish to add. Additional weight (such as liquid gravity or small lead pieces) is recommended but not included.
Is this kit suitable for beginners?
Yes, it is a highly detailed yet easy-to-build kit. Basic modelling skills such as careful handling of resin, light sanding, gluing, and painting are required, but no advanced scratch-building is needed. It is a good project for anyone comfortable with simple kit-building and painting.
The body does not seem to fit properly on the BD Concepts chassis. What should I check?
First, ensure you are using the correct BD Concepts 28mm motor bogie chassis. Check that there are no resin sprues or small printing nubs left inside the body or around the chassis clips. Lightly sand any high spots and test-fit gently. Do not force the chassis into the body; instead, adjust in small steps until it seats securely.
The body feels very light and the loco slips when running. How can I improve traction?
The resin body and motor are naturally light, so we recommend adding extra weight. You can use products such as liquid gravity or small lead pieces placed at each end of the body, taking care to keep clear of moving parts. Secure the weight with a suitable adhesive and re-check that the chassis still fits freely.
My roof does not sit flat on the body. How can I fix this?
Check that there is no debris or excess resin on the top edges of the body or underside of the roof. Lightly sand any high spots and test fit again. The roof is designed to drop into place; once you are happy with the fit, you can leave it removable or secure it with a small amount of Roket card glue or superglue.
Some small parts arrived slightly bent or warped. Can they be straightened?
Resin is delicate but can usually be gently straightened. Very carefully warm the part in hand-hot (not boiling) water for a short time, then ease it back into shape and allow it to cool flat. Always handle thin parts such as handrails with care to avoid snapping.
There are faint lines or marks on the surface. Is this normal?
Minor support marks and faint print lines can occur with high-detail resin printing. We clean and cure each model by hand and remove most marks, but a little fine sanding or light filling may still be required before priming. Use fine wet-and-dry paper and work gently to preserve the detail.
How should I attach the roof to the body?
The roof is designed to be a separate drop-in piece. You can:
- Leave it loose for easy access to the interior and chassis, or
- Use a small amount of Roket card glue for a semi-permanent bond, or
- Use superglue if you want a more permanent joint.
Apply glue sparingly along the inside edges to avoid visible glue marks.
What glue should I use for assembly?
For most resin-to-resin joints and small details, superglue works very well. For the roof or areas where you might want a slightly less permanent hold, Roket card glue is recommended. Avoid solvent glues intended for polystyrene, as they will not bond resin properly.
How should I prepare the resin parts before painting?
Although the models are cleaned and cured by hand, it is good practice to give the parts a gentle wash in warm soapy water and let them dry completely. Lightly sand any remaining support marks, then apply a suitable primer for resin before painting. This helps the paint adhere and shows up any areas that need further smoothing.
What type of paints and primer work best on this kit?
Use a primer specifically suitable for resin or metal, applied in thin coats. Once primed, you can use acrylic or enamel model paints according to your preference. Build up colour in light layers to avoid obscuring the fine detail in the cab and body.
How can I add extra character and detail to the model?
The kit already includes handrails, glazing, and couplers, but you can enhance it further with weathering powders, oil stains, rust streaks, and extra detail parts such as pipes, lamps, or crew figures. Because the roof is separate, you can also detail the cab interior more easily before final assembly.
