Product details

Here we have six G-scale oil drums to use as model railway scenery. Perfect for  a workshop or industrial location.  These are the ideal pieces that will bring a layout or diorama to life and the kind of items you would have lying around in a workshop or yard.  Great for GN-15 layouts as well of course.
Your order will come with the following great pieces :
six oil drums

This listing is for six resin printed pieces in grey.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed, figure not included as he has to work in the workshop.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we can't be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we'll see what we can do to help.

FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in this product?

Your order includes six G-scale resin-printed oil drums in grey. They arrive unprimed and unpainted, with all printing supports removed, ready for you to prime and paint.

What scale are these oil drums suitable for?

These oil drums are G-scale and work very nicely on G-scale model railways, industrial scenes, workshops, yards, and are also great for GN-15 layouts.

What material are the oil drums made from?

The oil drums are resin printed. Resin allows for crisp detail, but it is more delicate than some other materials, so a bit of care in handling is recommended.

Are these pieces pre-painted or weathered?

No, the oil drums are supplied in plain grey resin, unprimed and unpainted. This lets you choose your own colour scheme and weathering style to match your layout or diorama.

Do the oil drums come fully finished?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, and supports are removed. They may need a little fine sanding in places, but otherwise they are ready for priming and painting.

Is any figure or extra scenery included?

No, only the six oil drums are included. Any figures or other items shown in example scenes are not part of this listing; the figure is busy working in the workshop!

My oil drums arrived with visible layer lines or small marks. Is this normal?

A small amount of surface texture or faint support marks can be normal with resin printing. Each piece is cleaned, cured, and support marks are carefully removed by hand, but some fine sanding may still be required for the smoothest finish before priming.

One of the drums arrived broken in the post. What should I do?

If your item is damaged during shipping, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as you can and get in touch with the seller. They will review the images and see what they can do to help. Breakages after safe delivery, such as drops or mishandling, cannot be covered.

The resin feels delicate. Is that a defect?

Resin is naturally more brittle than some plastics. This is not a defect; it is a characteristic of the material that allows for fine detail. Handle the oil drums gently, avoid dropping them, and store them where they will not be crushed or knocked.

The drums do not sit perfectly flat on my layout. How can I fix this?

If a drum rocks slightly or does not sit perfectly flat, you can gently sand the bottom on a piece of fine sandpaper laid on a flat surface. A few light passes are usually enough to true up the base so it sits nicely on your layout.

There are small bits of resin left from supports. How do I tidy them up?

Although supports are removed before shipping, you may occasionally find a tiny nub or rough spot. Carefully trim any obvious protrusions with a sharp hobby knife and then smooth the area with fine-grit sandpaper before priming.

Can I repair a drum if I accidentally break it?

Minor breaks can often be repaired using a suitable cyanoacrylate (super glue) designed for plastics or resin. Hold the parts together firmly until the glue sets, then lightly sand and repaint the repaired area. Very small chips can be filled with a tiny amount of modelling putty and then sanded smooth.

Do these drums need assembly?

These particular oil drums are supplied as single pieces, so no assembly is required. The mention of “unassembled (if needed)” simply covers other items that may have multiple parts, but these drums arrive as complete units ready for finishing.

How should I prime the resin before painting?

Use a primer that is suitable for resin miniatures or models. Spray primers work well if applied in light, even coats. Make sure the drums are clean and free of dust, then apply a thin coat of primer and let it fully dry before painting. This helps paint adhere properly and reduces the chance of flaking.

What kind of paints work best on these oil drums?

Acrylic model paints are usually the easiest and safest choice for resin pieces. Once primed, you can use brush-on or airbrush acrylics to add base colours, highlights, and weathering effects such as rust, oil stains, and grime to bring the drums to life.

Do I need to do any sanding before painting?

You may want to do a little fine sanding where any faint support marks or small imperfections are visible. Use fine-grit sandpaper and work gently, focusing only on the areas that need smoothing. After sanding, brush off any dust before priming.

Any tips for making the drums look realistic on a layout?

To achieve a realistic look, you might:

  • Vary the colours slightly between drums so they do not all look identical.
  • Add weathering such as rust streaks, chipped paint, and oil spills.
  • Place them in small clusters near workshops, sidings, or industrial buildings to tell a story on your layout.
