FAQ – Product FAQs

What scale is this driver figure, and how tall is it?

This driver is in G Scale 1:22.5, similar to LGB and Bachmann large scale figures. The figure stands at approximately 71 mm tall, making it ideal for use as a locomotive driver or yard worker in G scale layouts.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted. It arrives as a clean, high-detail resin print, ready for you to prime and paint in your own preferred colours and railway livery.

What material is the figure made from?

The figure is printed in the UK using high detail resin. This allows for very fine surface detail that captures the realistic look and pose of the 3D-scanned real person.

Is this figure suitable for outdoor garden railways?

The figure is in G Scale 1:22.5, which is commonly used for garden railways. The resin itself is suitable for model use, but long-term outdoor exposure can vary depending on your climate and paints used. Many modellers successfully use similar resin figures outdoors once they are properly primed, painted, and sealed with suitable varnish.

How is the figure posed and how can it be used?

The figure is scanned from a real person and posed to work well as a driver, either mounted in a cab or standing around in the yard. You can position him in a locomotive, on a footplate, or on a platform or yard scene to add realistic human presence to your layout.

Is this product suitable for children?

No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. The figure and any small parts can present a choking hazard and should be handled only by responsible adults or supervised older hobbyists.

What should I do if my figure arrives broken in the post?

If the figure is damaged during delivery, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging as soon as you notice it. Contact the seller with these images so they can see what has happened and discuss how best to put things right. Breakages after safe delivery, such as from dropping the figure, cannot be covered.

Why is resin described as delicate?

High detail resin captures fine features but is more brittle than some other modelling materials. Thin areas, such as hands or small projections, can snap if dropped or handled roughly. It is best to handle the figure gently, especially before it is mounted securely on your layout or base.

My figure has a small line or tiny nibs on it. Is this normal?

Yes. Even though each figure is cleaned and cured by hand, a little minor finishing is sometimes needed. You may notice faint print lines, tiny support marks, or a small seam. These can usually be removed with light sanding, scraping, or careful trimming before priming.

The surface looks slightly glossy or slick. Will paint still stick?

Resin can sometimes look a bit glossy after curing, but paint will adhere well once the figure is properly cleaned (if needed) and primed. Using a suitable primer such as Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer helps create an excellent surface for your paints to grip.

What if the figure seems slightly warped or bent?

Minor warping can occasionally occur with resin. For small bends, you can usually correct them by gently warming the part in hand-hot (not boiling) water, carefully straightening it, and then holding it in position under cold water. Always test on a less visible area first and handle with care.

How should I deal with tiny fragile parts that arrived slightly misaligned?

If a small part is slightly out of line but not broken, you can often very gently nudge it into place after softening it slightly with warm water as described above. If it does snap, a small amount of good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue) can be used to reattach it, holding it in place until the glue sets.

The figure doesn’t sit perfectly in my locomotive cab. What can I do?

Locomotive cabs vary a lot between manufacturers. It is common to need a little adjustment, such as lightly sanding the base of the figure’s feet, trimming boots, or carefully relieving the cab floor or seat. Work slowly and test fit often until the pose looks natural.

What primer should I use on this resin figure?

The figure can be primed with commonly used hobby primers. Halfords grey primer and Tamiya Fine Surface Primer are both suitable options mentioned by the maker. Apply in light, even coats to preserve the fine detail.

Do I need to wash the figure before priming?

The items are cleaned and cured by hand before dispatch, so in many cases you can prime directly. Some modellers still prefer to give resin figures a gentle wash in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild detergent, then rinse and let them dry thoroughly before priming, especially if they have handled the figure a lot with bare hands.

What type of paints work best on this figure?

Once primed, most common model paints work well, including acrylics and enamels. Choose paints you are comfortable with and apply several thin coats rather than one thick one to keep the detail sharp. Always let the primer cure fully before you start painting.

How can I get a realistic finish on the driver’s clothing and face?

Work in layers. After a solid base coat on clothing and skin, add gentle shading and highlights with slightly darker and lighter tones. A thin wash can bring out folds and creases, and a light dry-brush on raised areas will help the 3D-scanned detail stand out. Take your time around the face, eyes, and hands for the most realism.

Should I seal the figure after painting?

Many modellers like to protect their work with a clear varnish once the paint is fully dry. A matt or satin varnish helps unify the finish and adds a little extra protection, especially if the figure will be handled or used on a working layout. Make sure the varnish is compatible with your paints.

Can I convert or modify the figure?

Yes, resin figures can be carefully converted. You can trim, reposition, or add details using hobby tools and modelling putty. Just remember the resin is delicate, so cut slowly, support the part you are working on, and test fit often to avoid unnecessary stress on the figure.

How is the figure packaged and shipped?

The figure is dispatched from the UK by Royal Mail 2nd Class. The packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, while the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres. This helps protect your model while keeping environmental impact in mind.
