Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this driver figure and how tall is it?

This driver is G-Scale 1:22.5 (the same scale used by LGB and Bachmann for their large-scale ranges) and stands at approximately 77 mm tall.

Is the figure supplied painted or unpainted?

The figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in your own railway’s colours and weathering style.

How is the figure produced?

The figure is 3D scanned from a real person to capture realistic proportions and natural poses, then printed here in the UK using high-detail resin. Each item is cleaned and cured by hand.

What can this driver figure be used for on my layout?

The figure is suitable as a driver either mounted in a cab or standing around in the yard. It works well in engine cabs, depot scenes, yards, and workshop areas in G-Scale layouts.

Is this figure compatible with other G-Scale brands?

Yes, the figure is designed for 1:22.5 G-Scale and is suitable for use alongside popular large-scale ranges such as LGB and Bachmann of the same scale.

Is this product new and how is it shipped?

All figures are supplied in new condition and are dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class.

What should I do if my figure arrives damaged in the post?

If your figure arrives damaged, please take clear photos of the packaging and the broken parts and contact us. While we cannot be responsible for breakages after delivery, we will do our best to help put things right when damage occurs in transit.

What if I accidentally break the figure after it arrives?

Resin can be delicate and may break if dropped or handled roughly. We cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely, so please handle it with care, especially around thinner details.

Is this figure safe for children?

No. These items are not toys and are not suitable for minors. The small parts present a choking hazard and the resin material is intended for adult hobby use only.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. Our exterior packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The interior packing materials are acid-free and made from approximately 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Who holds the commercial license for this model?

The figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

My figure arrived with a slightly rough area. Is that normal?

Some very minor finishing may be required before painting, such as gently smoothing small marks or tidying a faint print line. This is normal for high-detail resin prints and can usually be corrected with light sanding or a fine file.

The resin looks slightly shiny or slick. Do I need to clean it before priming?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand before dispatch, so in most cases you can prime straight away. If you prefer, you can give the figure a quick wash in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before priming.

What if the figure does not stand perfectly flat on the base?

Occasionally a base or foot may need a tiny adjustment. You can gently sand the bottom of the feet on fine sandpaper laid flat on a hard surface until the figure stands as you like, or fix it directly to your layout or cab floor with a small amount of adhesive.

How can I repair a small break, like a hand or arm?

Small breaks in resin can often be repaired using a good quality cyanoacrylate (super glue). Make sure the broken surfaces are clean and dry, test-fit the parts, then apply a tiny amount of glue and hold in place until set. Any visible join can be carefully sanded and then primed and painted.

The detail looks softer than I expected. Is something wrong?

The figure is printed in high-detail resin from a 3D scan, so fine features are present but may become clearer after priming and painting. Ensure you are viewing it under good light; once primed with a fine surface primer, the details usually stand out much more.

What primer should I use on this resin figure?

The figure can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya fine surface primer, both of which work well on this high-detail resin. Use light, even coats to preserve the fine detail.

Do I need to do any preparation before priming?

Check the figure for any tiny mould lines or support marks and gently remove them if needed. Make sure the figure is dry and free from dust. Then apply your chosen primer in thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before adding another.

What paints work best on this figure after priming?

Once primed, the figure will accept most standard hobby paints designed for miniatures and models, such as acrylics or enamels. Choose paints that are compatible with your primer and apply in thin layers to keep the detail crisp.

Any tips for painting a realistic driver for G-Scale?

For a natural look, try:

  • Using muted colours for work clothes with small touches of brighter colour for details like neckerchiefs or caps.
  • Adding light weathering around boots, knees, and hands to suggest coal dust or oil.
  • Finishing with a matte or satin varnish to protect the paint and unify the finish.

How should I mount the driver in a cab or yard scene?

Test-fit the figure first to find a natural pose. You can then secure it with a small amount of suitable adhesive on the feet or base. In cabs, you may wish to glue it to a removable floor panel so you can reposition or replace it later without damaging the locomotive.
