FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What scale is this figure and which layouts will it suit?

This seated figure is G-Scale 1:22 and approximately 58mm tall when seated. It is ideal for layouts that use LGB, Bachmann and similar G-scale stock.

Is the figure supplied painted?

No, the figure is supplied unpainted so you can finish it in whatever colours best match your own locomotives, coaches and layout scenes.

How is the figure produced?

The figure is 3D scanned from a real person to capture realistic proportions and natural poses, then printed here in the UK using high-detail resin.

What condition is the item in when I receive it?

Each figure is new, cleaned and cured by hand, and may need a little minor finishing before you apply primer and paint.

How is the item shipped?

Items are dispatched by Royal Mail 2nd Class within the UK. The figure will arrive well packed in eco-friendly packaging.

Is this product suitable for children?

No, these figures are not toys and are not suitable for minors. They contain small parts and can pose a choking hazard.

What type of resin is used, and how delicate is it?

The figure is printed in high-detail resin, which allows for fine detail but can be quite delicate. It is best treated as a display and modelling item rather than a play piece.

Is the packaging environmentally friendly?

Yes. The outer packaging is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable. The interior packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Who holds the license for this model?

The figure is sold under commercial license from Design Scan Print 3D.

Can I use this figure outdoors on a garden railway?

The product description does not specify outdoor use. Many modellers do use resin figures outdoors, but you will need to protect them with suitable primer, paint and varnish, and avoid prolonged direct impact or rough handling.

What should I do if my figure arrives broken in the post?

If the figure is damaged during delivery, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging, then contact us. We will review the images and do what we can to put things right.

Can you replace figures that I accidentally break after delivery?

We cannot be held responsible for breakages once the item has arrived safely. Resin is delicate, so please handle the figure carefully during unpacking, assembly and painting.

The surface looks slightly rough in places. Is this normal?

Minor surface texture or tiny marks can occur with high-detail resin prints. All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but a little light finishing before priming is normal for this type of model.

My figure does not seem to sit level. How can I fix this?

Check that the surface you are placing the figure on is flat. If needed, you can gently sand the underside of the figure’s base or seat contact points with fine sandpaper to help it sit level on your chosen seat or coach.

The figure doesn’t quite fit the seat I had in mind. Any tips?

Different manufacturers’ G-scale seating can vary. You may need to:

  • Lightly sand the underside of the figure or seat edges.
  • Add a thin shim of plasticard under the figure.
  • Test fit carefully before gluing so you can adjust positioning.

Do I need to clean the figure before painting?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand, but many modellers like to give resin parts a quick wash in lukewarm water with a drop of mild washing-up liquid, then let them dry fully before priming. This helps ensure good paint adhesion.

What primers work well on this figure?

The model can be primed with Halfords grey primer or Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, both of which give a good base for acrylic or enamel paints.

Do I need to do any sanding or filling before priming?

Some figures may need minor finishing. You can gently remove any small print marks or faint lines with fine wet-and-dry paper or small files, and use a tiny amount of model filler if you spot any imperfections you’d like to smooth out.

What kind of paints should I use?

The description does not specify a paint type. Most railway modellers use hobby acrylics or enamels over the recommended primers. Whichever you choose, apply thin coats and allow each layer to dry fully.

Any tips for painting such a detailed, realistic figure?

Because the figure is 3D scanned from a real person, the folds and features take paint nicely. Many modellers find it helpful to:

  • Start with a solid primer coat.
  • Block in main colours first (skin, clothing, shoes).
  • Add gentle shading and highlights to bring out the natural folds and pose.
  • Finish with a suitable matt or satin varnish once fully dry.
