Product details

This is a model based on the Electric Battery Baguley Drewy locomotive. Originally used at the underground munitions bunker at RAF Chilmark in Wiltshire, the locos were all sold off but can still be seen powering along at various preservation railways, such as the Leighton Buzzard Railway. The kit is printed using high detail resin in the UK.

The sale is for the battery body, sub-chassis that clips onto a Kato 11-109 , control box, driver and lights, it is unpainted and without the Kato chassis which is shown for information purposes only. The real locos are well proportioned so this means that no trimming of the Kato chassis is required, just click it into the chassis plate and go.

The pictures of painted vehicles (not included in sale) are for information only as is the diorama. Last picture is one taken inside the LBR shed and also not included in the kit.

The kit may require some minor finishing if required before painting. Condition is New and is dispatched by Royal Mail in the UK and Royal Mail  for worldwide. Our packaging is Eco friendly, the exterior packing is made in part from Recycled Materials and is fully recyclable, the interior packing materials are acid free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

Finishing: All items are cleaned and cured by hand. They are unassembled (if needed). Ready for you to prime and paint.

We do our very best to remove support marks but some fine sanding may be required.

All pieces and parts come unprimed and unpainted with all supports removed.

Please do bear in mind that resin can be quite delicate so try to avoid dropping your parts! Sadly, we cant be held responsible for breakages once your item has arrived. However, if the piece is broken in the post, please provide images and we will see what we can do to help to make things good.

Electric Battery Baguley Drewry Locomotive Kit – FAQ

What exactly is included in this kit?

The kit includes a high-detail resin battery body, a sub-chassis that clips onto a Kato 11-109, a control box, a driver figure and lights. All parts are supplied unassembled (where applicable), unprimed and unpainted. The Kato 11-109 chassis, any diorama, and any painted example shown in photos are not included and are for information only.

What is this model based on?

This model is based on the Electric Battery Baguley Drewry locomotive originally used at the underground munitions bunker at RAF Chilmark in Wiltshire. Similar locomotives can still be seen running at preservation railways such as the Leighton Buzzard Railway.

What scale or chassis does the kit use?

The kit is designed to clip directly onto a Kato 11-109 chassis. The real locos are well proportioned, so no trimming of the Kato chassis is required—just click it into the chassis plate and go.

Is the model ready to run out of the box?

No. This is a resin kit intended for modellers. It is supplied unpainted, unprimed and unassembled (where needed). You will need to provide a Kato 11-109 chassis separately, carry out any minor finishing, and then prime, paint and assemble the model.

Where is the kit produced and how is it finished before shipping?

The kit is printed in high-detail resin in the UK. All items are cleaned, cured and have their supports removed by hand before dispatch. Some fine sanding may still be required to achieve your preferred finish before painting.

How is the kit packaged and shipped?

The kit is dispatched by Royal Mail in the UK and by Royal Mail for worldwide orders. Packaging is eco-friendly: the outer packing is made in part from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, and the interior packing is acid-free and made from 99% recycled pulp fibres.

My kit arrived with visible support marks. Is this normal?

All parts are cleaned and cured by hand and supports are removed before shipping, but with high-detail resin some faint support marks can remain. This is normal for resin kits and can usually be removed with a little careful fine sanding before priming.

What should I do if something is broken in the post?

If your kit arrives damaged from transit, please take clear photos of the damage and get in touch. While resin is delicate and we cannot be responsible for breakages after safe delivery, we will always do our best to help make things good when damage occurs in the post.

The parts look slightly warped or out of shape. Can this be fixed?

Resin parts are generally stable, but if you notice a slight bend, it can often be gently corrected. Carefully warming the affected area in hand-hot (not boiling) water and then holding it in the correct position while it cools can help. Always proceed slowly and cautiously, as resin is delicate.

The Kato 11-109 doesn’t seem to clip into the sub-chassis properly. What can I check?

First, make sure you are using the correct Kato 11-109 chassis. Check that:

  • There is no resin flash or debris in the clip areas of the sub-chassis.
  • The chassis is fully seated and aligned with the slots or locating points.
  • You apply even, gentle pressure until it clicks into place—do not force it.

A light clean-up of the clip points with a fine file can help if the fit is very tight.

The body doesn’t sit level on the chassis. How can I correct this?

Check that the sub-chassis is fully clipped onto the Kato 11-109 and that no sprue nubs or support remnants are trapped between the parts. Lightly dress any high spots with fine files or sanding sticks, test-fitting frequently until the body sits level.

The driver or small details don’t fit their positions cleanly. Any tips?

Small resin parts sometimes benefit from a quick clean-up. Gently remove any tiny mould lines or support remnants from both the part and its locating area. Test fit dry first, then fix with a small amount of appropriate model adhesive once you are happy with the fit.

Some details look soft after priming. What might be wrong?

If details appear softened, it is usually due to heavy primer application. Apply primer in several light coats rather than one heavy one, keeping the spray moving and at the recommended distance. On future builds, ensure the model is clean and dry before priming to avoid pooling.

What kind of preparation do the resin parts need before painting?

Although the parts are cleaned and cured by hand, it is good practice to:

  • Inspect for any remaining support marks and gently sand them smooth.
  • Lightly wash the parts in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent, then rinse and allow to dry fully.
  • Handle with clean hands or gloves to avoid fingerprints and grease.

Do I need to prime the model before painting?

Yes. All pieces come unprimed and unpainted, and resin always benefits from a suitable primer. A light, even coat of primer will help your paint adhere properly and bring out the fine detail of the Baguley Drewry body and fittings.

Can I paint the parts while they are still on the sprues?

The parts are supplied with supports already removed, so you will be working with loose components. It is usually easier to mount small parts on cocktail sticks or similar holders for painting, then assemble once the paint has fully cured.

How should I handle the model during assembly and painting?

Resin is quite delicate, so avoid dropping the parts or gripping thin sections too firmly. When painting, support the model by the more solid areas, and allow each coat to dry thoroughly before handling again. This helps protect both the detail and your paint finish.

What type of paint works best on this kit?

The kit is supplied unpainted and ready for you to prime and paint using your preferred model paints. After priming, you can use the paints you are comfortable with for miniatures and model railways, applied in thin, controlled coats to preserve the fine detail.
