FAQ – Product FAQs
What exactly is this product?
This is a resin-printed wagon load designed to sit on top of a Dinorwic Slate Wagon, adding extra realism to your model railway layout. It is supplied as a single grey resin piece, depending on which load type you select.
Which wagon load types are available?
There are three load styles currently available: Petrol/Diesel tanker, Gunpowder Wagon, and Dump wagon. Each option is sold individually, so you can choose the specific load you want for your wagon.
Does the wagon load come painted?
No, all wagon loads are supplied unprimed and unpainted in grey resin. The painted items shown in any images are examples for reference only, so you can see how the finished model might look after painting.
Is this a complete wagon or just a load?
This listing is for the wagon load only, not a complete running wagon. The load is designed to sit on your existing Dinorwic Slate Wagon to represent different types of traffic on your layout.
How are the parts prepared before shipping?
Each piece is cleaned and cured by hand, with all printing supports removed before it leaves the workshop. We do our best to remove support marks, but a little fine sanding may still be needed before priming and painting.
Is the resin fragile?
Resin can be quite delicate, especially on finer details, so it is best to handle the load carefully and avoid dropping it. We cannot be responsible for accidental damage after delivery, but if something arrives broken from the post, contact us with photos and we will see what we can do to help.
My load doesn’t sit quite right on the wagon. What can I do?
If the load does not sit flat, check for any small bits of remaining support or flash on the underside and carefully trim or sand them away. Also make sure the top of your Dinorwic Slate Wagon is clean and free from old glue or scenic material that might cause rocking.
The surface has faint lines or marks. How do I improve the finish?
Fine sanding is the key. Use a fine sanding stick or high-grit sandpaper and gently smooth any visible support marks or print lines. Once sanded, give the piece a light wash in soapy water, let it dry fully, and then apply primer before painting.
A small part arrived broken in the post. What should I do?
Keep all the packaging and take clear photos of the damage from a few angles. Then get in touch and provide the images so we can assess what has happened and see what we can do to help resolve it.
The resin looks slightly glossy or slick. Will paint still stick?
Yes, paint will adhere well once the piece is properly prepared. If the surface looks slick, give it a quick wash in warm soapy water, rinse, let it dry completely, and then apply a grey car primer before painting with acrylics.
My superglue isn’t bonding well to the resin. Any tips?
If superglue is not grabbing, lightly roughen the contact surfaces with fine sandpaper and ensure they are dust-free. Use a very small amount of fresh superglue and hold the parts together firmly for a short time to allow the bond to set.
Do I need to assemble anything on these loads?
Most of the load is supplied as a single piece, but some kits may require minor assembly. In particular, the Petrol/Diesel tanker has supports that may need to be attached to the bowser with a small dab of superglue after painting.
How should I assemble the Petrol/Diesel tanker supports?
It is easiest to paint the supports and the bowser separately first. Once the paint is dry, apply a tiny amount of superglue to the contact points on the supports and carefully fix them to the bowser. Allow the glue to fully cure before handling or placing the load on your wagon.
What is the recommended painting process?
A straightforward approach is:
- Lightly sand any visible support marks.
- Wash the piece in warm soapy water and let it dry.
- Apply a coat of grey car primer.
- Paint with acrylic paints in your chosen colours.
- Finish with an ink wash to bring out the detail and add weathering.
What kind of paints and products should I use?
Grey car primer works very well as a base coat on resin. For colour, standard hobby acrylic paints are ideal. To add depth and realism, an ink wash over the acrylics will help pick out the detail and give a nicely weathered look.
Do I need to remove any supports before painting?
No, all supports are removed before the piece is sent to you. However, some small marks where supports were attached may remain, and a little fine sanding in those areas will give the best finish once primed and painted.
