FAQ – Product FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in this set?

This set includes six unpainted resin figures in 1:43.5 scale, suitable for use as locomotive crew. All figures are supplied as individual pieces with all supports removed. No painted figures, tools, paints or adhesives are included.

What scale and size are the figures?

The figures are 1:43.5 scale and are approximately 39 mm tall, making them ideal for O gauge and similar layouts that use this scale for loco crew and lineside staff.

Are the figures ready to use straight out of the box?

They are ready to prime and paint straight out of the box. All supports have been removed and the figures have been cleaned and cured by hand. You will still need to prime and paint them before placing them on your layout for the best results.

What material are the figures made from?

The figures are resin printed pieces. Resin allows for fine detail and smooth surfaces, but it also means the figures should be handled gently due to the material’s delicacy.

Do the figures come painted or primed?

No, all figures are supplied unprimed and unpainted. Any painted figures shown in photos are examples only and are not included. You will need to apply your own primer and paint.

Why are these figures described as good value?

This listing provides six resin figures at a price that compares very favourably with some well-known 3D sellers who charge over £30 for just five figures. In addition, all supports are already removed, saving you time and reducing the risk of damage.

One of my figures arrived damaged, what should I do?

If a figure is damaged in transit, please contact us with clear photos of the item and the packaging. While we can’t be responsible for accidents after delivery, we will always look at ways to help if the damage occurred during shipping.

My figure looks slightly bent or warped, is this normal?

Resin figures can occasionally show slight flex or warp, especially if exposed to heat. First check that the figure stands correctly on a flat surface. If there is a noticeable bend from transit, please send us photos so we can advise on the best way to proceed.

The surface feels slightly tacky, is that a problem?

All items are cleaned and cured by hand before shipping, so they should not feel tacky. If you notice any slight residue, a gentle wash in lukewarm water with a drop of mild detergent, followed by thorough drying, usually prepares the surface nicely for primer.

There are tiny marks where supports used to be. How can I fix them?

Although all supports are removed before shipping, you may occasionally notice very small marks. These can usually be smoothed with a light pass of fine sanding sticks or a small file, followed by primer to blend everything in.

My primer or paint is not sticking well, what could be wrong?

If paint is beading or not adhering, the figure may have a trace of handling oils or dust on the surface. Gently wash the figure in lukewarm soapy water, rinse, let it dry completely, and then re-prime with a good-quality primer suitable for resin.

What should I do if a small part snaps off while handling?

Because resin is delicate, small parts can break if stressed. In many cases you can reattach them with a small amount of suitable model adhesive. If the damage occurred during transit, please send us photos so we can discuss possible solutions.

Do I need to do any cleaning before priming?

All figures are cleaned and cured by hand, so they are ready to prime. However, many modellers like to give them a quick rinse in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of detergent, then let them dry fully. This can help ensure the best possible paint adhesion.

What kind of primer should I use on these resin figures?

Use a primer that is suitable for resin miniatures or plastic models. A fine, smooth primer will help preserve the detail. Apply in thin coats rather than one heavy layer to avoid obscuring the sculpted features.

Do I need to assemble any parts, or are the figures one piece?

These figures are supplied as six individual, one-piece resin prints with all supports removed. There is no multi-part assembly required; you simply prepare, prime and paint them before placing them on your layout.

How should I handle the figures during painting?

Handle the figures gently and avoid gripping delicate areas such as arms or tools. Many modellers mount the feet or base of the figure onto a temporary holder (such as a cork or painting handle) with a small amount of removable adhesive to keep fingers off the model while painting.

Can I convert or modify these figures?

The resin can be carefully cut, drilled or filed if you wish to convert poses or add details, but always work slowly and gently to avoid breakage. Any modifications are at your own risk, as the material is delicate.

What type of paints work best on these figures?

Most hobby acrylics designed for miniatures or model railways work very well once the figure is properly primed. Enamels can also be used over a suitable primer if that is your preferred system. Always apply thin layers to preserve the fine detail.

How can I protect the paintwork once I’m finished?

After the paint is fully dry, you can apply a clear varnish suitable for miniatures to protect the finish. Choose matte, satin or gloss according to the look you want for your loco crew, and apply in light coats to avoid obscuring detail.
