FAQ – Product FAQs

GN15 Drop-Sided Plank Wagon Kit – FAQ

What exactly do I get in this GN15 wagon kit?

Your order includes four grey resin-printed pieces: one bogie frame, two coupling blocks, and one single drop-sided wagon body. You can choose to receive two sets of 12.5 mm diameter wheels, or buy the kit without wheelsets if you already have some.

Is this wagon specifically designed for GN15 layouts?

Yes. The wagon has been built with GN-15 operations in mind, so it’s sized and proportioned to sit naturally alongside other GN15 stock on your layout.

Do the parts come assembled or ready-to-run?

No, this is a kit. All pieces arrive unassembled so you can build, customise, and detail the wagon to suit your own layout and operating style.

Are the parts already cleaned and cured?

Yes. All resin parts are cleaned and cured by hand before they leave the workshop. They arrive with supports removed and are ready for you to assemble, prime, and paint.

Are the parts primed or painted?

No. Every piece comes unprimed and unpainted. This gives you a clean starting point for your own choice of primer, colours, and weathering effects.

How delicate are the resin parts?

Resin can be quite delicate, especially on finer details, so it’s best to handle the parts gently and avoid dropping them. Once the item has arrived safely, breakages from handling or accidents can’t be covered, but if something arrives damaged in the post, you can contact the seller with photos to see what can be done.

Can I order the kit without wheelsets?

Yes. You can choose to buy the kit without the 12.5 mm wheelsets if you already have suitable wheels in your spares box. This is ideal if you prefer to standardise on a particular make of wheel.

What size wheels does the kit use?

The optional wheelsets supplied with the kit are 12.5 mm in diameter. If you’re using your own wheels, choose 12.5 mm wheels for best fit and appearance.

Is this suitable for beginners in GN15 modelling?

The kit is described as very easy to get up and running on your layout. With basic modelling skills—such as careful gluing, light sanding, and simple painting—you should be able to build a solid, good-looking wagon.

Can I customise or kitbash the wagon?

Yes. Because the wagon is supplied unassembled, unprimed, and unpainted, it’s an excellent base for customisation. You can add your own details, loads, couplings, and weathering to match your layout’s character.

Is any extra hardware included besides the resin parts and optional wheels?

The listing specifically includes four resin printed pieces in grey and, if selected, two 12.5 mm wheelsets. Any additional items such as adhesives, couplers of a specific type, or detailing parts are not included and should be supplied by you.

Can you replace parts that arrive damaged?

If a piece is broken in the post, you’re encouraged to provide clear images of the damage. The seller will then see what can be done to help. Breakages that occur after safe delivery (for example from dropping or mishandling) are not covered.

The wagon doesn’t roll smoothly. What should I check first?

First, check that the wheelsets are seated correctly in the bogie frame and that nothing is pinched or twisted. Look for any stray resin, glue, or paint in the axle areas and remove it carefully. A light clean-up around the axle points usually improves rolling significantly.

The wheels seem tight or won’t turn freely. How can I fix this?

Inspect the inside of the bogie frame where the axles sit. If there are tiny printing or support-removal marks, very gently dress them with fine sandpaper or a small file. Work slowly and test-fit often so you don’t remove too much material.

The wagon sits unevenly on the track. What might be wrong?

An uneven sit is often caused by a slightly twisted bogie frame or a wheelset not fully seated. Check that the bogie frame is straight and that both wheelsets are pushed in evenly. If needed, gently warm and straighten the frame following your usual resin-handling practice, taking care not to over-bend.

There are visible support marks on the parts. Is this normal?

Yes. Every effort is made to remove support marks during cleaning, but a few fine marks may remain. These are normal for resin-printed kits and can be smoothed with light sanding before priming.

Parts arrived broken. What should I do?

If the damage appears to have happened in transit, take clear photos of the broken parts and the packaging, then contact the seller. They’ll review the images and see what can be done to help resolve the issue.

Some parts don’t seem to fit perfectly together. How can I improve the fit?

Resin kits often benefit from a little fettling. Test-fit everything first, then lightly sand or scrape any tight spots or small ridges where supports were removed. Work gradually until the parts sit together cleanly before gluing.

Do I need to wash the parts before painting?

The parts are cleaned and cured by hand, so they arrive ready for assembly, priming, and painting. That said, many modellers like to give resin parts a quick wash in mild soapy water and let them dry thoroughly, just to remove any handling residue before priming.

What type of primer should I use on the resin?

Use a primer that’s suitable for resin and plastic miniatures. A good-quality hobby aerosol or airbrush primer designed for plastics will give the paint something to grip and help reveal any areas that might need a little extra sanding.

Do I need to sand the entire model before painting?

No. You only need to sand where necessary—typically on any visible layer lines, small support marks, or joints that need smoothing. Use fine-grit sandpaper and check your work under good light before priming.

Can I use standard acrylic model paints on this wagon?

Yes. Once the wagon is properly primed, standard acrylic model paints work very well on resin. You can brush-paint or airbrush, then finish with your preferred varnish and weathering products.

Any tips for painting and finishing to get a realistic GN15 look?

After priming, apply your base colour in thin coats, then add lighter and darker tones for planks and metalwork. Weather with washes, dry-brushing, and powders to bring out the plank detail and give the wagon a well-used industrial feel that suits GN15 layouts.

Should I assemble everything before painting, or paint parts separately?

Many modellers find it easiest to assemble the main structure first, then prime and paint as a whole. Small parts like coupling blocks can be painted separately if you prefer. The key is to ensure glue surfaces are free of paint so you get strong joints.
