All parts are supplied unassembled (where needed), unprimed and unpainted. The KATO 109 (KATO 11-109) chassis is not included and is shown in photos for information only.

Which chassis does this body fit?

This railcar body is designed to fit the KATO 109 (KATO 11-109), which is the newer coreless version of the KATO-103. It clips easily into place on the correct KATO chassis.

Is this model suitable for passenger or inspection trains?

Yes. The drasine railcar makes a great addition to a layout as a local passenger service, inspection car or pier train, depending on how you choose to paint and detail it.

What material is the railcar printed in?

The railcar is printed in high-detail resin in the UK. All items are cleaned and cured by hand, with supports removed before dispatch.

Is the model supplied painted or pre-primed?

No. All pieces are supplied unprimed and unpainted, ready for you to prime and paint. The painted examples shown in the photos are for illustration so you can see the level of finish achievable.

Troubleshooting FAQs

The KATO 109 chassis does not seem to clip in. What should I check?

First, make sure you are using the correct chassis: the KATO 109 (KATO 11-109) coreless version. Check that there are no bits of residual resin or flash inside the body or chassis surround that could obstruct the fit. A very light clean-up with a fine file or sanding stick around the clip areas usually resolves tight spots.

The body feels too tight on the chassis. Can I adjust it?

Yes. The main body is designed as a push fit onto the chassis. If it feels too tight, gently ease the inner faces of the body where it meets the chassis with very fine sandpaper. Remove a tiny amount at a time and test-fit frequently so you do not over-loosen the fit.

My glazing pieces are not slotting into place easily. Any tips?

Check that the window openings are free from tiny resin nibs or dust. If needed, lightly dress the inside edges of the window apertures with fine wet-and-dry paper. Make sure the glazing is aligned correctly and press gently and evenly rather than forcing a single corner.

I can see faint support marks on the resin. Is this normal?

Some very fine support marks are normal with high-detail resin printing. We do our best to remove them, but a little extra work may be required. A quick pass with fine or ultra-fine sanding sticks or wet-and-dry paper will usually make them disappear before priming.

The model arrived damaged. What should I do?

If the piece appears to have been broken in the post, please take clear photos of the damage and the packaging and get in touch. Resin is delicate and we cannot be responsible for breakages after delivery, but if it arrives damaged we will do our best to help put things right.

Assembly & Painting FAQs

Do I need to assemble anything, or is it one piece?

The railcar is supplied as separate parts (body, chassis surround, interior, roof, lamp and glazing). They are unassembled where needed so you can paint parts separately. The main body is a push fit onto the KATO chassis, and the glazing slots into the window openings.

Should I fit the body to the chassis before or after painting?

It is best to paint the body and other parts before final assembly. The main body is designed as a push fit onto the chassis specifically to allow you to paint it separately, then clip it onto the KATO 109 chassis once everything is dry and finished.

How should I prepare the resin before painting?

Although the parts are cleaned and cured, it is good practice to:

  • Inspect for any fine support marks and gently sand them smooth.
  • Lightly wash the parts in lukewarm water with a tiny drop of mild detergent, then allow them to dry fully.
  • Apply a suitable primer for resin before your top coats.

What order should I assemble the parts in?

A typical sequence is:

  • Clean and lightly sand any support marks.
  • Test-fit body, interior, roof, lamp and glazing without glue.
  • Prime and paint the interior and body separately.
  • Fit the interior into the body once painted.
  • Install the glazing, taking care not to get glue on visible faces.
  • Attach the roof and lamp.
  • Finally, push-fit the completed body onto the KATO 109 chassis.

Any tips for handling the resin during assembly and painting?

Resin can be quite delicate, so handle parts by the thicker sections and avoid dropping them. Use gentle pressure when push-fitting or sanding. If you need to clamp anything while glue dries, use soft pads or tape to prevent marking the surface.
